  1. My guess is it is going to be a flop just like the Tiguan. I have seen ONE Tiguan since it has gone on sale. VW/Audis current pricing structure is whack.

  2. the weak value of the dollar is what’s whack. the tiguan is one of the best small suvs in europe (just read WhatCar? magazine’s review of it, for one). and the thing has just gone on sale in the states. but the tiguan probably won’t be a big hit because, let’s face it, it’s not cute (although that could be addressed by selling all u.s. tiguans with the rounder, better off-road front end of the “escape” models offered in europe and south america)

  3. The Tiguan is popular overseas because they tend to favor more compact vehicles. The CR-V is even much larger than the Tiguan, but it is MUCH cheaper.

The Tiguan does not get that great of mileage. Its base price is 23K and that doesn’t even net you an automatic transmission or 4WD. The Tiguan is going to go down in flames because in the American market, it is a confused and overpriced vehicle.

  4. The Q5 isn’t on sale anywhere yet. If all cars in California needed plates, I assume that would apply to test cars. How else would the po po know this is street legal?

You see BMW test cars around malibu and the westside of LA all the time. So this isn’t unusual.

Or, the Euros are xenophobic and are willing to take it up the #### to stay domestic.

The thing is too small and too thirsty for it’s price. Why buy it if it can’t do what others can do for much less?
