Insane. Part1

I guess $4 a gallon is closer than we think.
It was already well over $4 around Malibu yesterday.

Cheap prices… compared to Europe or even Canada.
I paid $2.87 for regular (87) in East Rutherford NJ this morning. Doubt that price will last.
Cheap prices… compared to Europe or even Canada.
True, but misleading.
While always higher for out northern friends, over a six year period Canada’s prices have risen and fallen with similar regularity as US prices.
However, in mid-2002, Canadians were paying more of a difference between the US than now, so gas is relatively cheaper for Canadians by about 37 cents/gal. (after currency conversion and c/L versus gallon conversion).
It’s too late for me to work on European conversion rates.
Its $3.53 around here in san diego, I drive 60 miles daily and my F-150 is killing my wallet at the pump, i just picked up a used 2007 kia rio lx, thang has 25k on it and still smells new gets 32mpg or more and 6 airbags, this car is very impressive has lots of neat features and has some ok get up and go (5 speed) I did not want a Yaris or Aveo and really like the looks of the rio, i paid 7900.00 bucks for it and let someone else take the depreciation hit on it.
More people should test drive one of these, you will come away very impressed.
It was bound to happen. Maybe we Avericans will stop being so wasteful and consume less.
you guys has been lucky so far, we’ve been paying that price since long time ago
———–a sucker Canadian.
I roughly calculated that we have to pay a bit more than 8 dollar (!) per gallon in Germany (1,41€/liter super) at the moment.
Just to give you an idea how absurdly high the petrol prizes are over here and why we are so keen on saving petrol.
you call this insane ??
here in germany , we pay actually 1,42€ for a LITRE of gas. that are 2,19$ for a litre.a gallon has 3,78 litres. If you would calculate it, we pay here in germany 8,27$ for a gallon !!
THAT’S INSANE !

It’s just not that simple. Canada and the US, both, have based the price of all of our goods at the cheaper rates. Now everything is reflecting the increase from food to building costs, to air fare. It’s all relative.
It was bound to happen. Maybe we Avericans will stop being so wasteful and consume less.
True, but those of us who have been driving efficient cars all along are still paying the price for everyone else’s greed.
this is making someone in the middle east (or even our own country) very rich
could someone explain why diesel is more expensive than gasoline when it costs less money to produce (its a less-refined fuel)? i guess the gas companies dont want consumers buying diesel cars because that way they wouldnt make as much money
unamerican!

Its called collateral damage:)

Europe has some of the greatest small cars in the world, and your diesel technology is ahead of anyones’ in the world. But you all must really be suffering with diesel prices these days.
Politics are often frowned upon on Vince’s site, but politics and oil are inextricably linked. In most cases, they are one and the same.
I read something the other day that said if America hadn’t invaded Iraq, gas prices would be more stable today (and it went on to describe in lengthy detail of why). But Bush & Co. have created a situation now where leaving Iraq would turn oil prices into chaos. The world is held hostage not only by OPEC but by greedy Western interests, too.

“Collateral damage” is inadvertent casualties and destruction inflicted on civilians in the course of military operations.
Inadvertent: Without intention.
You seem quite intent.
i wouldnt blame president bush for all the worlds problems. that is a deate not to be settled over a blog that should be about cars. the fact is that cars and oil are inextricably linked, and even if the gas companies are ripping everyone (in the world) off, its creating environmental awareness and improving automotive technology
