i dunno…..the more i see this car the more it looks like a chinese copy of a BMW 5 series, especially the side profile.
What it sure looks like is a 5 series copy.
I like the rear and side views, not the front. If they price it reasonably, it will sell though.
Look’s good, but do you have any info as to what the Kia version will look like and if it will be sold in the U.S.?
May I just remind everyone that Hyundai is not doing a miracle by making a luxo car with amazing reliability which costs around $30k with a V8.
Toyota Crown does the same thing with a better interior/exterior.
This thing is not going to take off in Asia anytime soon unless it costs atleast $15k less than a Crown. The Toyota Crown’s are considered equivalent to the Lexus brand in Asia.
So the only place this Hyundai branded genesis can actually launch other than Korea is in the US. That’s betting ToMoCo doesn’t bring Crown over anytime soon (a very good bet). Even then launching it under a Hyundai brand is weird. Everyone said VW were idiotic for launching the Phaeton. How is Hyundai’s not a stupid move?
But everyones like OMFG a Hyundai with iDrive! Want one now.
This car worries me because it’s perfect
I remember seeing earlier pictures with more original looking tail lights. The current pics look like the Infiniti M series and they should not copy one of my favorites.
A bit dated even before its release, the Genesis design is derivative of many other cars, but somehow it all works together nicely. It’s hard to expect cutting-edge style on a tight budget since this car is really about value. If I wanted or needed a big rear-drive sedan, I’d consider this.
Lexus front end 5 series everything else. I think they might have a winner. T
This will kill the junky looking Avalon. I’d still never buy a Kia or Hyundai though. As much as they’ve improved, they have a long way to go.

November 28, 2007 12:43 AM ———————————– you, to the dude above, you just can’t get over the fact that everyone is copy everyone, but have to lay it on the Chinsee aren’t you? even especially when it is clear enough says on it “its Made In Korea by Hyundai” ? keep in mind, its not just Chinese are copying others, so does Korean, so does Japanese! you got problem with everyone dont you?
What’s with the difference in brake lights between the silver and black one? As always the black one has better visibility because everything lights up, instead of just the outsides
hmm. I’m thinking Acura RL front end, which considering how that thing has sold isn’t really a good thing.
Like the Nissan GT-R, the more I see of the Genesis prior to its official release, the more uninteresting it becomes.
I would love to see the Toyota Crown in the states. If Toyota can sell the Sequaia and Land Cruiser here at the same time, they can also sell the Crown along with the Avalon.
Nice, but too many cars are starting to look like the BMW 5. Looks like that and the new Accord which is BMW 5 inspired, too.
They all copy each other to the point where style us almost universal among some cars. Easy to mistake one brand for another these days.
At least all the BMW 5 look-a-likes aren’t offensive…….just too many of them now.
you can never have too many Genesis pictures I always say. Hey Hyundai, ya got any more?:)
John M.
Lexus front end, BMW 5 Series profile, Infiniti tail end. If it’s faster, more luxurious and $5K less than an Avalon Limited edition, it’ll sell. Hey, some people actually bought that strange Hyundai XG350 thingy a few years back!
VINCE, I think you should do a post that compares the two budget V8’s against each other. Toyota Crown Majesta vs. Hyundai Genesis.
these poor people have a long way to go
I smile and chuckle at the comparisons to this car’s resemblance to some other existing car models. Well maybe its more BMWish in looks with a dash of Lexus LS.
I don’t see the Infiniti resemblance at all. Unless some are referring to the rear tail lights?
Maybe, just maybe this car’s design is so fluid and yet very elegant that it makes us remind ourselves of other cars we like.
Word is that it comes with a 6 Spd Auto and base V6 @280-290 horses, the V8? About 300+horses. Optional Heated and cooled seats anyone? Plus, plus, plus.
I’m curious to see this car in better hi res photos and even more curious to hear how it rides. Did Hyundai score a home run or ‘also ran’ with this design and powertrain?
We’ll all soon find out. Detroit is only 12 weeks away.
Jac
This will eat any toyota avon
This car looks like a half used bar of soap. Very 90s. I’m sure it wil sell well because it’ll be cheap.
I’ve seen so many pictures it feels like the car should have already been on the road yesterday….
Hyundai needs to learn how to properly hype. You don’t show off the production car a year before it’s supposed to be out…unless it was already out somewhere else first.
I want this thing in my garage already.
Since the resale value will probably plummet, by the time the next gimmick/fad is out, I’ll have a $15,000 Genesis (with 7 years left on the Warranty) next to my $10,000 Smart ForTwo Passion….

I think this as most hyundai designs share similarities but are unique in their own way , for example the genesis coupe. However in my OPINION i think this car inovolves more copycat design cues than hyundais gone past. I state that it looks chinese as it is almost a blatant 5 series copy in side prfoile, which the chinese have done in the past aka the x5 clone.
so get over my opinion if you don’t like it and please read before you post.

———————————–Dude, SO, why on earth would you “think” it “looks like”… when the title says clearly Made in Korea?
so stop BS here, just trying to let you understand, don’t just automatically lay down all “copyright” craps onto Chinese product, when everyone is doing the same and copying from everyone else. so please think twice before you accusing anyone else next time. and before you post!
weee, it doesn’t stop!
