lexus GT
Last Updated:
We’ve all seen the prototype.
But this picture shows a slightly different car.
Most noticeable are the rear view mirrors now in a more normal position.
I think this is a production model, or very close to it.
They are talking about a 500hp V10 engine for a price over $100 000.
They would mainly be competing with Aston Martin at these prices.
A pretty gutsy move for any Japanese car maker…
If that is really the production car, i think it looks too radical for a Lexus. As a SUpra maybe, as a Celica definetly, but i guess just too much racer-boy style for a Lexus. SPecially for that price – the mentioned Aston looks 100 times classier.
I´m sure it´s great tchnic wise, but the looks….. ???
well, i’d love to see what changes they made to the front, but for 500 HP and a v-10 hmmmm maybe no more than 125,000 is reasonable for a luxury sports car with toyota quality and reliability
Wait until 2008 Acura NSX debuts againist this and the Aston Martin. Most likely under cutting them in price.
This is not a gutsy move at all. Actually, I believe the automotive world is lacking cars that can stay beyond convensional brands like Lexus and BMW, but yet not as pricy and exotics like Rolls-Royce and Maybach, or Ferrari and Lambo. Now, $100,000 – $150,000 range is dominated by Mercedes-Benz, and if Lexus can tape into this market range with build quality and user friendly design, Lexus can significantly boost its image and profit margin.
blacklaser… lexus gt is the direct competition with the super skiline.
blacklaser sorry ((skyline))
This is one clunky looking car. Toyota should think about hiring some Italians to help them with their designs.
Hopefully the new NSX won’t be as ugly as the RDX crossover (I fear that it (RDX) signifies Acura’s future styling theme). If it is, then the Lexus will be a viable alternative in the Japanese super car sector, as will the 2008 GT-R.
Sharp-edged style looks like a Cadillac.
That is definitely not a production car … notice the BBS wheels, which means it’s either a mule, or a testing prototype.
“Sharp-edged style looks like a Cadillac.”
And Cadillac’s “sharp edged” style borrows all sorts of various Japanese design cues. What’s your point?
I put my money on this being a lexus. Regardless of the price, lexus will use this model as the flagship car, flogging it in as many ads as possible to prove that lexus has a least some of the driving passion as the germans such as BMW and mercedes.
“And Cadillac’s “sharp edged” style borrows all sorts of various Japanese design cues. What’s your point?”
That car looks like what I’d expect from Cadillac given Cadillac’s current designs. Maybe that’s pointless to you, but it’s my point anyway.

Guess who designed it .. AN ITALIAN!
(most new Lexussss are designd by italians.. )
HEY
iF FORd
can sell their Ford GT for 150,000 then sure as heck, Lexus can do the same!!!
well heck,
nothing is new under the sun,
everyone burrows design cues from each other, so what!!!
Most people didn’t think Lexus could be created before Honda did Acura. Then most people didn’t think Lexus could branch its brand out into sports cars like the SC 430. If there’s anything history has taught us, it’s that Toyota has balls when it comes to looking at new segments with Lexus. Not that I like the look of this thing: Lexus has not been known for having cohesive, cross-range design cues in the past (e.g. LX 470 v. SC 430 v. IS), so I should not be surprised.

“An Italian” Really? They can’t just pluck an Italian out of a crowd. They need to have someone who has actual design skills. The should use best from Italy, not just some Homer. This car stinks.
that is a pretty ugly car good luck going at aston martin with that…….., it is neither elegant or well styled, and it looks bland other than the odd desighn cues the rear and vents…..poor old lexus, always good quality always sorry styling
to be honest like it, do i think it can compete with an astom martin or even an sl for that matter no…but more nsx, gtr, viper, f430 type of a car. on that cadillac thing the cadillac edge theme is far from being japanese for years japanese cars have been curvy, nowhere near the sharp edged cadillacs :with maybe the italians (especially old maseratis) influencing cadillac’s edge theme, nowhere near japansese whatsoever in design, but hey to some the unoriginal blob looking (which is why i like this car very original very exotic, very risky, and has personality) japanese cars influence everything….lol
not just some “homer” italian designed the lfa but the italian responsible for the 80s ferraris.
