Jetta Wagon
Last Updated:
VW has mentioned last year they would have a wagon style version of the Jetta in the US.
Let’s hope it looks a bit more interesting than this boring illustration.
It might be a smarter move to actually bring over a “Cross” version over here.
Make it look more like a Subaru Outback and offer all wheel drive.
VOLKS wagon models have always been “boxy” because they put the emphasis on being able to carry A LOT of stuff.
Unlike other cars that look like wagons or even SUVs but are unable to carry a 27inch TV…
In my 1991 passat wagon, I’ve been able to fit a six feet long sofabed and then close the door behind it. Try that in a subaru… Only half of it will fit.
I never mentioned wagons shouldn’t be boxy.Where did you read that?
I think they can be roomy and still more interesting looking than just adding a squared off back to a sedan.
Coworker has the new Jetta with manual gearbox. In its first gear driving out of the parking lot, it has to be the loudest car ever. And judging by how slow the car was moving, it couldn’t have been more than 2500rpm. But it was louder than most cars at 5000rpm. Sheesh… Who’s idea was this whimpy 150bhp?
Well, as the main market for that car would be europe, and here specially fleet customers, a normal wagon could be just enough.
They tried to replace the Golf MK. IV Wagon (Bora/Jetta) with the plus in Europe (call it a cross over), but actually it didn´t work out.
Instead of getting back the old customers of the Golf Wagon or the competition, it´s mostly canibalizing the 5 door GOlf and Touran Minivan (at least it sells)
VW practical and boxy? LOL Try getting a 6′ tall person in the back of a IV Jetta. What a joke. If VW ever pulls their collective heads out of their butt they’ll give us the Touran. Otherwise they can go fuck themselves. VW is such a has been. They should just pull out of the US market all together. There are plenty of better quality, cheaper korean cars for sale in this country.
huh? you prefer korean cars over VW?
HELLO anybody home? Korean cars are better than VWs. Everybody knows that. Check any quality survey.
Depends on which survey. At least in Europe, some Hyundai are really goog while some Kia and Daewoo/Chevrolet are last in their segment (Kia Carnival/Sephia….)
So i think still nowhere near the japanese, just like VW
loovelay!
Well, I suppose if by “better” you mean that Koran cars are more RELIABLE than VW, sure – that’s clear.
But overall, as far as engineering sophistication, safety, styling, material quality, depreciation, and enjoyment, etc… I would rather own a VW (personal opinion).
I certainly don’t think that poor reliability means that an entire automaker should be banished from America. It has certainly happened before – e.g. Alfa Romeo – and now we are all begging for them to return to the North American market. Why? Because we love Alfa’s reliability? I don’t think so…
“I certainly don’t think that poor reliability means that an entire automaker should be banished from America.”
Well obviously you are in the minority and nobody cares what you think. So piss off.
“Well, I suppose if by “better” you mean that Koran cars are more RELIABLE than VW, sure – that’s clear. “
I’m not convinced that Korean cars are well built at all. I think their execs have just bribed the right publications. Now that these guys are in jail, it should be interesting.
