2021 Ariya: all-new video teaser
Last Updated:
Again, this is looking really good so far.
Let’s hope it has a decent range (anything over 250 miles) and is priced right.
(under $40 000)
This could be a great thing for Nissan.
I know most people who buy an EV buy a Tesla. They have done a great job of building up their brand image.
Still, besides going really fast their quality is questionable at best. And the interiors is subpar. Especially for the asking price. But the many Tesla fans will not even consider anything else. Just like German sedan fans a few years ago who would not even look at anything else.
Things will change. EV chargers are multiplying everywhere. Soon everyone will offer a Tesla competitor. Many of them will look better, cost less and will be much more reliable.
So far, the Ariya does look great. I really hope it does well.
"Things will change."
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Tesla had a massive headstart, and mainstream carmakers are still floundering to catch up. And, more importantly, they have the brand cache. Tesla is THE cool car to have right now. They were the first to make electric cars cool, and people will remember that for a long time. No one wants to have the lame copycat if they can have the original. It kinda reminds me of when the Germans and Lexus took the luxury market by storm, and Cadillac and Lincoln didn't react fast enough. Now they're just relics that are only bought by boomers who live in Florida…
If the Nissan is capable of going 350-400 miles on a charge it will sell well.
Every Tesla owner I know ( and that’s lots here in the Bay Area) previously drove luxury cars like BMW or Lexus. And all of them love theIr Tesla interiors (and love to show them off) because they’re so futuristic. In other words, not more of the same old same old. Traditional luxury car fatigue has set in and Tesla provides the alternative. No matter how many screens the others try to jam inside, Tesla’s software is just in another league and that’s what drives the user experience. And no one else is close to catching up.
"Tesla fanboys getting nervous. Forgetting the Leaf was the first mass market EV…"
But you don't see Kanye West driving around in a Leaf, do you? And i'm not even a Tesla fanboy, i personally find them soulless and bland. But the Leaf is probably the lamest EV on sale right now, next to the Bolt.
I think my point went over your head, because you're really dim-witted. It's not a matter of "emulating" a certain celebrity. Whether you like it or not, Kanye West driving a Tesla means its a relevant car. You might not care about that, but its usually a good barometer if a car is in vogue. You can replace Kanye with any other celebrity, like Leonardo DiCaprio or any relevant celebrity of your choosing. None of them would drive something lame like a Leaf, would they?
BTW, you let this blog turn into a complete dumpster fire, Vince. I hope you take those words to heart and start cleaning up the trash, or else this blog is going to continue losing viewers and fade into irrelevance.

Vince leave the blog as is. It's a community discussion on cars, sure gets a little heated, but that's the nature of discussions. It's actually nice to see a discussion rather than just the usual one or two lines of irrelevant fanboyism.
Tesla fanboys getting nervous. Forgetting the Leaf was the first mass market EV…
Yeah Kanye West.. that's who we should all seek to emulate..
Tesla is a status symbol, leaf is for tbe common man are you really this daft and biased? Who compares a model S to a leaf? I don't see Kanye driving a Taycan either, so by your moronic logic, the Tesla would be a better car than the Taycan until celebrities start driving the Taycan right? Celebrities loved the Hummer too dumbass, but who's picking a hummmer over a Volvo XC90? Come back when you understand the concept of relativism when it comes to status symbols and the actual value and worth of a car to consumers. And just so you know, when the leaf first came out many Hollywood elites owned one. The leaf started the electric vehicle market, whether you like it or not, and whether you like it or not, the Ariya will be a big problem to the Model Y. It already looks worlds better
