Porsche 718 Boxter & Cayman EV.

These super realistic images from AutoCar look quite amazing. Showing what the next-generation Porsche Boxter and Cayman could look like.

And they do match very closely the many spy shots we have seen of the new EVs.

Porsch’es EV plans have been in flux lately. And the new coupe and convertible have not been spared. They were supposed to go into production next year and replace the current models. It now seems they could be late by a few months and actually be sold alongside the current ICE versions for a while. At least in some markets.

Which is different from what they’ve been doing with the new Macan EV, which replacing the ICE model in many countries. It seems sales of the new electric SUV have been a bit disappointing and now Porsche is scared. I personally think a big part of the problem comes from the fact that Porsche decided to hike the Caman price by over $20,000 in the EV switch. A huge price difference from the previous generation never really helps.
Currently, the Cayman coupe starts at $72,800. The Boxter convertible is $2100 more. Adding $20,000 to this will put in in another bracket altogether. Although still a lot less than the base 911 at over $120,00.

I guess Porsche thinks price doesn’t matter and people are willing to pay anything they’ve decided to charge. it seems they were wrong since sales of the Taycan are so far 50% below last year. After a $9000 price increase for the 2025 model.

The new Porsche 718 EVs will try very hard to mimic the current ICE models driving dynamic. In order to feel more like a mid-engine car, the batteries will be placed right behind the passengers instead of under the floor. Which is pretty clever.

The new Porsche 718 coupe and convertible will probably be great cars. We’ll just have to wait a little bit longer for them…
