Toyota Previa.
Last Updated:
Toyota is rumored to be working on an all-new version of the Previa Minivan. AKA Estima in Japan. These illustrations show what it could look like.
Back in 2021 and 2022, there was a 1st rumor of a new Previa EV using Toyota’s eTNGA platform shared with the Toyota BZ4X. I guess that program got canceled after the BZ4X less-than-stellar reviews and sales.
Apparently, the project is back on the table. I guess since Toyota realizes what they had with the original Previa and what VW has been doing with the ID. Buzz. It is now rumored to be offered as an EV as well as a PHEV model. It will not be based on Toyota’s future EV platform which has been pushed back to 2026 or 2027 depending on the brand.
the new Previa would be based on a version of the current GA-K platform that could also offer an EV powertrain as well as a PHEV.
Since they are also working on 2 new 3 rows of EV SUVS for the North American market, I don’t think there will be any room for a new Previa minivan under the current Sienna in North America. Unless the ID. Buzz becomes a huge hit for some reason. (Maybe super cheap leases are coming…).
But who knows? I never thought they would bring the Crown Wagon (Signia) over here either…
a much nicer looking design, i prefer it to the modern origami-like Sienna that has all sort of weird folds and lines. I’d love to see this come back.. my one pet peeve is the lack of bumpers, especially the rear one.. that vestigial bumper won’t offer much protection in a parking lot incident and will only make the car more expensive to fix and insure
not a fan of he 4x small red lights on top of the rear window, there’s got to be a better way to integrate them
As much as I’m not an EV buyer for a couple very practical reasons, this Previa is really a great idea. Clean and modern. I bet there are a decent number of people that would be interested in this. They should make it as an MPV, which largely dont exist anymore. But I’d call it a garageable minivan size – when “minivans” were, well, mini.
