2026 Subaru Trailseeker.

The new Subaru Trailseeker is quite a surprise. And it’s not what most people expected.
We were all expecting the Trailseeker to be Subaru‘s version of a new, smaller Toyota SUV. Either the new C-HR+ or that 3rd new compact model Toyota teased a few weeks ago. And no… The Trailseeker ends up being a longer, taller version of the current Solterra.
It is based on the same platform and uses the same powertrain as the revised Toyota Bz4X/Solterra for 2026.
Range on the Trailseeker improves over the “old” Solterra with over 260 miles of range (And is rumored to be as high as 300 miles). All versions will have dual motors with AWD. Power should be around 375HP, which is a lot for a Subaru family AWD wagon. It also comes standard with a NACS plug.
The new Trailseeker looks pretty nice so far. But I am quite puzzled as to why they decided to release this. It is longer but without a 3rd row of seats. Since it is basically a Toyota product, it reminds me of the Crown Signia compared to the RAV4. Again, why?
The Solterra is far from a best seller and a slightly larger and more expensive version doesn’t seem the obvious way to go. Unlike a smaller, yet still roomy, and especially cheaper model.
Either way, I wish them well. And we know that a larger 3-row model is indeed coming later. As well as a smaller and more affordable model…
I’m puzzled by this one too. But I also disagree that the “obvious” way to go is a cheaper (and cheapened) EV. Are consumers really saying that they’d rush down to buy an EV if only it was cheaper? No.
This looks good. I love the taillights versus the bz4X and the Solterra. Why didn’t they put this front end on the refreshed Solterra? Why didn’t they use this design language for the Outback? I don’t understand who is designing at Subaru.
Man, I hate Subaru interiors. They look so dated and cheap.
Has Subaru finally ended its winning streak? That makes 3 swings and a miss all in one auto show.
