When Toyota, Peugeot and Citroen announced their upcoming “jointly designed cars” a few years ago, it seemed like a weird idea.
I mean, Peugoet doesn’t need anyone’s help to make small cars for the European market. That’s what they’ve been doing for almost 100 years!!!
But Toyota has been looking for a big break in Europe. Their designs aren’t very appealing to local tastes.
Their only real success is the French built Yaris. A hatchback version of the Echo, also sold in Canada.
I am not sure how they were able to convice Peugeot/Citroen to share profits on something they could have done on their own. A lot of money must be involved somewhere. And not only in cars…
The actual cars look pretty nice. But again, the Peugeot and the Citroen look too close.
Just when you think Citroen is back with weird, futurist and inovative designs, they come up with this: another Peugeot clone. Just like they used to do…
The Toyota seems a bit more different.
All models will be built in a special factory in the Czech Republic. (The joy of that cheap eastern European labor…).
Engines will be a 1.0 Liter gas or a 1.4 Liter diesel.
And, don’t hold your breath. You’ll never see these in the US…
