Cadillac Eldorado.
Last Updated:
Cadillac is currently working on two new EV projects. And apparently, according to GM design director Brian Smith, we might see one of these “soon”…
And no, this new Cadillac we’ll be seeing soon is probably not a new Eldorado coupe. Although that would be fun. It will most likely be one of the 2 new Ultium-based sedans they’ve been working on for a while. Since they now cover pretty much every single SUV segment known to man with the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ. They can’t really come up with something cheaper than the Optic as a luxury brand. The only new models they can come up with are sedans.
And yet, why not a cool large and old fashion coupe like an Eldorado. The illustration above shows a very simple design of what a new 2 door Cadillac could look like. Something that wouldn’t cost the price of a Rolls Royce like the new Celestiq.
Like many famous Cadillac models, the Eldorado started life in the 1950s. Back when American luxury cars were insanely large and heavy. But also the envy of car fans all around the world. These were days long before Mercedes or even BMW were popular, especially in the US. Also, these giant chariots were barely getting 10MPG.
The Eldorado started shrinking for its 10th generation in 1979 but still looked great and quite imposing. However, by 1986, the much smaller 11th generation just looked ridiculous. By then it seems Cadillac in general was quite lost.
Cadillac was working on a new beautiful coupe a few years ago, which ended up being a concept they only showed a few months ago. Like it, they were ashamed of it. Or maybe the opposite, it looked so good it made the CT5 sedan look even worse.
Let’s hope someone at GM goes nuts and pushes for a new coupe. A new Cadillac coupe…
Vince, when did you learn how to do these illustrations?
If Cadillac comes out with the El Dorado or a coupe, I would definitely buy it and sell my LC 500 and 2011 Cadillac CTSV
