2012 Chevrolet Malibu?

Last Updated:

Let’s hope not.

From the spy photos seen a few weeks ago, the next Malibu seems much better looking than theses illustrations.
The top one looks especially bad, and a big step backward from the current model.

The Current Malibu is still one of my favorite midsize sedan. I just hope the new one looks as good.

We’ll see….

  1. The current Malibu is one of the nicest midsized family cars on the market today. Certainly better than the hideous Camcord sedans. I see them everywhere, which suggests to me that they're successful. This illustration is a total mess. The wheels are too small, the windowline is too conventional and both ends look Korean. I just don't like this at all.

  2. For the front… a fusion of Subaru Legacy (Liberty), and Buick Regal (Opel Insignia)… with a Malibu twist. As for the Rear – CHANGE those ugly lights!

  3. This is just an artists rendering….However its created from spy shots and patent images. The first time I saw this, I thought I was looking at a large Aveo. And although I'm sure it will be of good quality, from a styling standpoint, this is a big step backwards. I don't like the front or the cheesey Camaro like tail lights. The side looks good and rumor has it that the interior is supposed to be a big leap forward…as good as the current one is. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

  4. Okay.

There's definitely some Chevy Epica going on, as well as some Cruze in the foglights.

This chop is awful, and probably (hopefully) looks nothing like the real thing.

  5. It does look a lot like the patent drawings for the new Malibu, but the wheels look too small so it must be a chop. But because it looks so much like the drawing, it scares me that the real thing is going to be a big step backwards from the current car. It is so bland and dated, the same problem as the Chevy Cruse.

  6. The side windows are Camry clone. The shape of the backlight is also directly copied from Camry; Chevy tried to hide this by putting the Camaro details.

  7. This is a bad chop of the Chevy EPICA by Inside Line. All one has to do is look at the spy pics and patent drawings and you'll know this is NOT the car. Inside line should be able to know the difference, but they seem to hate all things GM anyway so I guess they are trying to steer people to those ugly Camcords!

  8. As John M said, this appears to be based on the patent drawings.

I sure as hell hope it's off base. It looks very bland.

  9. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

There is no way this is the 2012 Malibu…unless the Mayans were correct – and this is the end; then ya – I can totally see it.

  10. If it looks anything remotely like this 'four door Camaro' wannabe… They Failed!

The current Malibu is easily one of the most elegant and cohesive designs in its segment, and this… THING… is just a mess of disparate design ideas that simply don't work well together at ll.

    YUCK!

  11. More like next gen Chevy Nova/ Toyota Corolla. ( Or whatever GM calls theirs; privious badge-engineered Corollas were called Geo Prism, Pontiac Vibe, Chevy Nova, etc.)

  12. Is anyone reading anyone else's comments? It's a Chevy Epica or here in Australia a Holden Epica. It is not an artist's rendering.

  13. It IS an artists rendering. The first place I saw this "rendering" was on insideline.com. I think that was the first place for these images to come out since they claim that it was one of their artists who came up with these images. The title of the article was "Rendered: 2012 Chevrolet Malibu." Therefore it is an artist's rendering. Personnally, I think the actual car to be produced will look better than this (I hope) but we'll have to wait and see.

  14. god its true what they say about ignorant Americans hey?? many people here have stated the truth – it is a photoshop of a current gen daewoo tosca / holden epica – it is not the new Malibu and obvious to anyone in a country that sells the car these chops are based on! so calm down and actually read what other people are saying!!!!
