2025 Chevrolet Equinox PHEV.
Last Updated:
We’ve seen the new 2025 Chevrolet Equinox for a few months now, with pictures from China. Where the new SUV is coming out very soon.
The latest photo (top) shows us the PHEV version of the “sportier” RS model with 19-inch wheels. It seems to retain the same front end as the more basic version (bottom). While the Activ model (middle) gets a revised face more in tune with its off-road image. And yes, this is a plug-in Hybrid version. Something GM does not offer in the US.
The next-generation Equinox looks really nice and much more angular than the current model. Almost trying to compete with the Ford Bronco Sport. At least the Active version could maybe have a more potent AWD system, who knows?
The Chinese version of the new Equinox is powered by the usual GM 1.5 Liter Turbo unit, which is the same current Equinox in the US. The PHEV model also uses the 1.5 Liter with an additional electric motor.
With over 212,000 of them sold last year, the current Equinox is still a very popular product for GM. I am sure the more tractive design of the next generation will bring even more buyers. While the 1.5 Liter is fine, it’s just too bad Chevrolet doesn’t have at least a regular Hybrid version to offer as an option. And the PHEV shown here would be even better. The current model starts at a very reasonable $ 26,600 in the US. Or almost $2000 less than a basic Toyota RAV-4.
It is basically a brand-new design on the same platform using the same powertrains. Which will probably help keep the prices down. The Chevrolet Malibu sedan is also supposed to be getting a similar treatment soon. A brand new design on a familiar platform.
Still. A Chevrolet Equinox PHEV… Not for us…
