Kia Tasman.

Just when you think the Tesla Cybertruck might be the most disturbing-looking object on 4 wheels, a new contender emerges: the 2025 Kia Tasman.
“Ghastly” doesn’t even begin to describe it. The Cybertruck almost has a good excuse: being the most noticeable vehicle you can buy for $100,000. At that price and for that purpose it’s almost a bargain.
But the Tasman is a work truck. It’s probably not that expensive. You can tell Kia has made some efforts to be a bit original and different from other pickup trucks. And it is, in a bad way. It looks like something out of WW2, or a Soviet-era truck from Eastern Europe.
Surprisingly, the interior looks great. It seems Kia got everything right inside. Looking modern but also rugged and even a bit original. There is also a way to make the Tasman even uglier with an optional weirdo-looking storage for the rear bed. Something that looks like a strange plastic cage.
This is Kia’s official description of their new pickup: “A progressive pickup, the Kia Tasman breaks down traditional stereotypes to deliver revolutionary design, spaciousness, adaptability and safety“. Or “Kia’s first pickup truck invites customers to ‘dive into a new dimension’ by pushing boundaries of what a pickup can deliver“.
The Tasman will be available with a 2.5 Liter gas engine or 2.2 Liter Diesel. A 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission will be offered.
And of course, this will not be coming here. Thanks to the 25% “Chicken tax” tariff on pickup trucks.
Wow…that’s ugly. Makes the Cybertruck look pretty good.
This is horrendous. I expected some LED lights integrated into the sides of the grille like on the EV9 so that the headlights looked less alien.
This won’t be coming to America. It won’t get past focus groups. It would need some restyling to work at all here.
I had the displeasure of pulling up to a stop sign and seeing a Hyundai SantaFe across the street. Kia and Hyundais are getting so bonkers-level ugly, I had a visceral reaction to it. In lighter colors, this one was silver, you can really see all the chock-a-block garish detailing…and its bad. Just like this Kia.
Hey Vince,
Love your comment: ‘“Ghastly” doesn’t even begin to describe it. ‘
It must be a Halloween joke :))
This is the ugliest new car in 2024. Wow.
Vince’s commitment over the years to the wonderfully evocative word “ghastly” is one of the reasons I visit his page every day. 🙂
I kind of like it, except the small engines… and why does every vehicle now have old man stooped back headrests?
