Acura ZDX A-Spec test drive Video.
Last Updated:
I previously drove the top-of-the-line Acura ZDX Type S. This video is about the less expensive Acura ZDX A-Spec model.
They are basically the same car and are still based on GM’s Ultium platform. Part sharing shows inside with similar switches, stalks, and the steering wheel. Otherwise, Acura did a good job differentiating the ZDX from other Ultium models.
The design is clean and modern. However, its interior is not really what is expected for the price. The AWD version I was driving was basically $70,000. Which is quite expensive and much more than the fancier Cadillac Lyriq.
The “base” ZDX drives as well as the Type-S model. Even though it doesn’t have adaptive suspension. The 15-speaker sound system is really good but not as excellent as the one in the Type-S. Which makes sense.
I had a few small problems, all related to GM parts. Like the phone charger not charging. And the stereo control switches behind the steering wheel not working half of the time. Just like in many GM cars I’ve driven lately.
Otherwise, the ZDX is a very nice car. especially if you lease one. Since there are offers offers for under $400 a month. However, the A-Spec trim is not really better than the more affordable Honda Prologue.
So here’s the rub… Acura must be reeling at this point. Californians keep buying EVs, while much of the rest of the USA isn’t. I wonder if Acura is going to continue much longer. Its too small of a business to serve two masters, and a good old fashioned multi-trillion dollar economic deficit should be all that’s needed to push our economy into recession by 2026, like only a failed casino owner multi bankruptcy businessman nepobaby can do. If I were Jon Ikeda, I’d be worried. The ZDX doesn’t really get them anywhere.
