Xiaomi YU7 SUV.

Smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi launched its first car, the SU7 EV sedan just a few months ago. Now we have the first photos of the SUV version called the YU7.
Xiaomi isn’t just “another Chinese brand”. Since it is already the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer, behind Samsung, with over 10% of the market.
The SU7 EV sedan started production last December and has already sold over 112,000 of them by November. That’s more than the entire Acura brand in the US so far this year.
So far the SU7 has been getting pretty positive reviews and the car. Ford’s CEO Jim Farley even announced last October that he was driving one daily and loved it. And that he “didn’t want to give it up”. Such a weird statement from someone who keeps pushing back new EV models for his own brand.
The YU7 is the eagerly awaited SUV version of the sedan. A model that will probably be even more popular. Yes, the YU7 obviously will remind many of the $430,000 Ferarri Purosangue. However, at that price, most of us will never see one.
It personally also reminds me of the Toyota Crown Sport. A very nice looking, sporty Toyota SUV/Crossover type not sold in North America.
There are no interior photos of the new Xiaomu YU7 yet, but the SU7 sedan interior pictured above looks quite nice. Sure, it has that “Tesla look” interior most Chinese EVs have these days with the large widescreen floating in front of a flat dashboard. But at least the second smaller screen in front of the driver seems very well integrated into the dash. Unlike the Mustang Mach-E .
The whole interior also seems much more premium than any Tesla offerings.
Xiaomi is so far losing money on these EVs and the CEO claims the brand is more interested in expansion than profit for now. Something that should scare most other foreign manufacturers…
