Honda Element.

Last Updated:

The Honda Element still has many fans. Even though its production stopped over 13 years ago. The illustration above shows what a new generation of Honda’s small and hugely practical crossover could look like.

The Element was produced between 2002 and 2011. With a total production of around 350 000 units.

It seems its popularity has grown since and once in a while, there have been rumors of a new generation coming out. The original Element was based on the 2nd generation Honda CR-V, which has grown in size since 2002. A new CR-V-based Element would now be a bit too large.

Although there seems to be no official plan for a new Element, we could imagine a new generation based on the next-generation Honda Civic scheduled in a couple of years. Which, by then, could offer a hybrid powertrain as standard.

The new Honda Prologue is so far the only EV from Honda and is based on GM’s Ultium platform. But a few new EVs are scheduled, based on Honda’s own new 0 Series platform. While Honda previewed for 1st two models, a sedan and an SUV. There are more coming. First a large 3-row SUB+V but also a new compact model.

That new compact EV could make a great new Element. Even one that would be at least 2 years away…

  1. This would be great. The Element used to have such a low floor and that was a big attraction. Not sure how they do that with a hybrid, but I’d love to see it. There’s still a couple running around town – they’re clearly loved by their owners.

  2. I owned two in the past an I loved them. I had so many cars in my life in the Element is one of my favorites.
Not everyone needs/likes electric vehicles. The 1.5 Turbo engine and tranny use on the current CRV or Civic would be a sweet powertrain for an Element.
Or a Hybrid version will do well too.
There’s no vehicle like the Element out there now. Honda is missing on it.
Most CUV had grown way too big. Same as small size trucks, none out there with the execption of the Maverick.
    Really nice design.

  3. Had a VW Cabriolet for 20 years and its 320,000 miles was my favorite car..until I replaced with my 2007 Honda Element. It is dog-friendly, hauls about anything, comfortable and lovingly quirky. Yes, I agree, Honda is missing out big-time on this great, reliable car!

  4. I have a 2007 Honda Element it’s a very good car very dependable big inside I had it 7 yrs 300.000 miles very good car barely had any issues with it very good car last a long time want to buy another one please bring them back the bed Honda ever .

  5. I had heard the rumors and was so excited. I’m not the least bit interested in a hybrid or EV. My granddaughter has a 2005 Element and I fell in love with it. I was hoping it would be my retirement car. Honda is really losing out on this! In Hawaii, this is a VERY sought after vehicle! Here in MI, they are as well! My Honda dealer was hoping they’d come back he gets request all the time. I told him my current 2014 CR-V has to last until it does.

  6. Looking for a replacement for my aging 2007 Element. A great car and our go to vehicle. Only complaints (though minor). Fuel tank to small, rattles and bang negotiating rough terrain. Really versatile vehicle on the whole.

  7. I had a 2003. Loved it. Been wishing they would bring it back. As others stated. No EV!. Up it to a 3.5 gasser. Id buy one in a heartbeat

  8. I love me 08 e ex AWD, but I want it to have allmost the same features. I would like to see more of a body kit for models, more engine power, and a sunroof in the front. But I do not want a electric or hybrid all gas or nothing.
