Chevrolet Spark EV.

Yes, there is a brand new Chevrolet Spark coming out. And it’s an EV. It’s also not for the US…
The new small Spark EV has been unveiled in Brazil. The new Spark EV is not related to other GM models at all. As a matter of fact, it now comes from China.
The new electric Chevrolet Spark is part of GM celebrating its 100th anniversary in Brazil. And will be sold in many countries around the world as well. Including Mexico and the Middle East. The new Spark EV is the result of a collaboration between GM and SAIC in China, where they already offer various models. The same car is sold in China as the Baojun Yep Plus. Which is a 4 door version of the popular tiny Baojun Yep.
Even with 4 doors, the new Chevrolet is a tiny little thing at just 157 inches long. Which is just 3 inches longer than a Miata. And 2 inches shorter than a Hyundai Venue. Which is quite short, but not “crazy short”. Since the venue has been on sale in the US.
The Chinese version of the car is powered by a 41.9 kWh battery good for 250 miles in the local test cycle. Which would probably be close to 200 miles EPA if sold here.
The Baojun Yp Plus starts at around the equivalent of $13,000 in China. Usually, Chinese car prices almost double when sold overseas. That would still mean a small 4 door cute little EV from GM for about $26,000 over here. Not bad at all for something that is just 5 inches shorter than the Bolt was.
Still, GM has other plans. Not only because of the current political situation but also because the US market mostly requires something a bit larger. Like the upcoming next-generation Chevrolet Bolt.
A new model based on the Ultium platform, with more power and range than the new Spark EV could ever offer. For probably not that much more money…
