Cadillac Eldorado.

Last Updated:

We will probably see at least of of the 2 new EV sedans Cadillac is working on this year. Both will be based on an updated version of the recurrent Ultium platform.

Recent Cadillac models have all been SUVs. (Except for the Celesitiq, almost no one has seen yet). An all-new sedan will be quite refreshing. However, I really think it is time for a new design language for the famous luxury brand. Or have at least one model that stands out by using a few classic retro Cadillac design cues.

While the sedans will try to sell in decent numbers, a new coupe could be an interesting retro-looking Cadillac.

For many years, 2 door Cadillacs were actually more popular than their sedans. Even the larger Deville models sold better as 2 sedans than 4-door sedans. These days are long gone.

The Ultium EV platform is doing great for Cadillac. With the Lyriq quickly becoming their second most popular model behind the Escalade. And will do even better with the cheaper Optiq that just came out.

A true 2 door coupe using the legendary Eldorado name would be even better. Even if not as popular as the new sedan it would be based on.

Mercedes is still making a luxury coupe. Just one. The new CLE is available as a coupe or convertible. At $58,000 to start, the 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder version, isn’t cheap. (almost $10,000 more for the 6-cylinder trim).

I think Cadillac could easily come up with a new large Ultium coupe larger than the CLE. Something expensive but not competing against Bentley or Rolls. Unlike the misguided Celestiq. And something retro. I am pretty sure these old Cadillac design cues could work on a very modern car.

How about it…
