Chevrolet Trailblazer.
Last Updated:

First, we had the Chevrolet Blazer SUV back in 2019. A new SUV that disappointed many by having nothing to do with past generations of the Blazer. Which was more of an off-road vehicle.
There was a little bit of hope when Chevrolet announced a new Trailblazer. But no… The 2021 Trailblazer ended up being Chevrolet’s version of the Buick Encore. And not what many were hoping.
That was 4 years ago, and a new Trailblazer could be coming in a year or two. And maybe this time we will see a more off-road-oriented model. With a more original design. One that could actually resemble a “real” Trailblazer. While still being smaller and more efficient than the old ones.
Of course, it could be an EV based on GM’s Ultium platform. But it could also grow a bit in size and be based on the new Chevrolet Equinox. Just like the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport are very closely related. A new Equinox-based Trailblazer would be the wilder off-road cousin of the Equinox.
The current Equinox is offered with a PHEV powertrain in China. But not here. At least not yet. Apparently, GM has mentioned the PHEV Equinox wouldn’t make it to the US until 2027.
The PHEV from the Chinese Equinox would be a fantastic standard powertrain in a new Trailblazer. With a slightly retro design and PHEV, a new Trailblazer would achieve for GM what the Bronco Sport did for Ford. Even Toyota is coming up with a new Compact Cruiser very soon. And Honda had transformed the Passport into a more off-road SUV. This is a growing market.
And a perfect way to reinvent the Trailblazer.
