Cadillac Wagon.

Cadillac is currently only producing SUVs and a couple of aging sedans. The luxury brand hasn’t offered a wagon since the 2nd generation CTS. As we all know, wagons are not a currently popular choice, and yet. Should Cadillac add one to its lineup?

The CTS wagon model was introduced in 2010. And I think it looked great and was quite a gutsy move from GM. It was mostly available with the smooth 3.6 Liter V6, with either RWD or even AWD. (Even the 2-door coupe was available with AWD!). I personally drove the crazy 556HP V version with a 6-speed manual for a week, and it was an unforgettable experience.

A new wagon could, of course, not be a CT5 wagon since that model is already old. Since Cadillac is indeed working on 2 new sedans based on the Ultium platform, a new wagon could be based on one of these two sedans. Probably the smaller model since the larger one is rumored to be similar in size to the old CT6.

All new Cadillac models for the North American market were scheduled to be based on the Ultium platform, at least for the next few years. (Except for the XT5 SUV which will see a new generation over here in a year or two. Based on the new generation currently ofered in China). Of course, so far all these new Ultium models introduced are SUVs, except the $340,000 Celestiq.

In China, a few manufacturers are already offering EV wagons. Audi just unveiled the great-looking Audi A6 e-Tron Avant, which is a fantastic-looking EV wagon… However, it will not be coming to the US.

I truly think that once the sedans are out, it wouldn’t cost GM a fortune to come up with a wagon body style. A brand new wagon would offer Cadillac a complete lineup. Not just the current SUV fest they have today with only the slow-selling CT5 and even rarer CT4 sedans.

I really hope the new EV sedans look great. And maybe, we’ll even see a wagon in the mix.

  1. Vince – I agree with you that wagons were cool and they are really missed. But the reality is that Americans don’t have any interest in them. So it’s highly unlikely we’re going to see anything new (sadly).

  2. It reminds me of the 2009 Cadillac SRX. I would not care about what they would name it but it sure is a sharp looking car. I liked the 2013 Elmiraj concept but like so many others not many ever get to production.

  3. I think a wagon would hit a home run! Everyone always says they miss a wagon and how cool they are. If you provide a product that nobody else is doing. You’ll usually win. Everyone always admires a wagon. Especially a full size 5 door. But to really drive it home. Provide a 3 door SS model for the “cool kids” and I know where my money would go 😉😜

  4. OR maybe people don’t buy wagons because there are so few available, and what there is available either has a tiny 2L engine (Buick) or costs $150k (Porsche). I drove an Audi S4 Avant to 170k miles and now have two E63 AMG Wagons. I love my 6.3L W211 and drive it every day. On the practical side it holds more stuff than my wife’s Blazer RS and is easier for the dogs to get in and out of, and it was as fast as a Corvette of the same model year.

  5. wagons are SUPER IN right now with Mercedes BMW and audi all making 600+ HP wagons that sell for more than a Z06 corvette.
I drive a W213 / E43 Bi-turbo mercedes and ppl follow me and yell nice car at gas stations. Hot Tod Wagon lovers are a cult but we hot pull bc all the big names keep making us new more powerful/ capable long-roofs. I had the Cadillac 2010 V and loved it.
these days i’m waiting for a well options Audi RS to go resale 😉

  6. As long as they don’t try to make it too small, it will fill a hole in the market. It needs to be roomy with a range of options from plain to plush. That way it can be used to haul “stuff” as well as folks.

  7. Hey folks, how about a hot looking Cadillac convertible? I miss my big car convertible like the Pontiac Grandville Convertible.
    How bout it GM?

  8. Yes they should and offer it in a V model with 700 plus horsepower to compete with Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. Let me know if they make it because I need one in white with tan interior, thanks.

  9. I had a Suzuki Forenza wagon (2005) and it was a great little car. When I sold it in 2015 with 35k on it, I posted it on line at 9:am and it was sold by noon! Wish I had it back!

  10. Agreed, wagons are awesome and I wish Cadillac had one! In the meantime though, I’m building my own- taking a 2nd generation Escalade ESV and lowering it to begin with. We’ll see from there, but the relatively small floor-to-roof height, the stock ground clearance, and the long length and width give me good hopes for the aesthetic as a whole, especially after it’s fine-tuned a bit!

  11. Cool cadillac wagon would be nice to make, have to be there best commercial to pull it off I have a cool concept of how the commercial should be to pull it off
