Infiniti QX65.

Technically, this is called the “Infiniti QX 65 Monograph Concept”. So what we’re looking at is a preview of the 2027 Infiniti QX65.

As you can see, it is just a “Coupe” version of the big QX60. I guess adding a”5″ means “Coupe’ in Infiniti‘s language. Of course, Infiniti is officially comparing this design to the great FX from years ago. Infiniti says the new design “draws inspiration from pioneering Infiniti FX”. Which might be true, but it’s also sad to see what it has become.

This looks much more like a very obnoxious, bloated version of the Nissan Ariya with a huge grille than the old Infiniti FX. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the Ariya design, but this looks heavy-handed and overdone. There is nothing left of the great FX in this design.

Looking around the web, I found out that Mr. Mamoru Aoki was the original designer of both generations of the great Infiniti FX. Apparently, he was also involved in the second-generation Infiniti Q45 and the fantastic Nissan 350Z from 2002. He currently oversees Nissan’s European Design Studio in London.

The QX60 hasn’t been a huge hit for Infiniti, with just under 28,000 of them sold last year. I am not sure a 5-seater version of a 3-row SUV is the way to success these days. I guess this is a rather inexpensive way to give the forgotten brand a new model to advertise.

Why not…

  1. Looks retro to some degree. Infiniti are becoming a niche Luxury Brand and I think that will serve them well into the future.

  2. Infiniti is in worse shape than its parent Nissan. It’s a miracle it hasn’t been shut down already. If Nissan wants to keep Infiniti relevant and alive, it should start by getting rid of the stupid naming scheme. Bring this vehicle to market and call it the FX.
