Nissan Frontier adds a PHEV model to the Frontier pickup..

Yes, they did. But this new Nissan Frontier PHEV is not the same vehicle as our North American Frontier pickup, and it’s not coming over here any time soon.
This new Nissan truck is based on the Nissan Dongfeng Z9 shown in the bottom image. A Chinese pickup built for Nissan in China by its partner, Dongfeng.
The second image shows a connection between the new Truck and the original and still really cool US-designed Frontier pickup. A connection that doesn’t exist except for the name.
This new Frontier PHEV is powered by a small 1.5 Liter Turbo with an electric motor for a total of over 400HP. Which almost sounds crazy. The truck is supposed to be able to get over 80 miles of pure EV range as well. Which could still translate to a 50-mile range EPA.
The new Frontier PHEV will be built in China and exported to many countries around the world. Except, of course, the US. Since you know… Crazy tariffs and unresolved political issues.
However, Motor Trend has reported that a next-generation North American Nissan Frontier is already in the works and will also include a PHEV option. The next Frontier is far from being “around the corner” with a scheduled arrival of “around 2028”. That’s a very long time, and anything can happen between now and 2028.
Including Nissan not being around anymore.
