Toyota Camry video.

This is a short video about past models of the Toyota Camry, as well as a few guesses about its future.

In the past, the Camry has been offered in body styles that may surprise some people today. Alongside the familiar four-door sedan, Toyota once sold the Camry as a two-door coupe and as a wagon. The wagon lasted for two generations, while the two-door coupe was cancelled after just one. The Camry coupe was never popular, and Toyota eventually replaced it with a more original and purpose-built design: the Toyota Solara. Available as a coupe and even a convertible.

The problem with the Camry coupe was that it didn’t really make sense. It was essentially a 1990s Camry sedan with two doors instead of four. That made it less practical, but without adding anything in return. A coupe is almost always less practical than a sedan, so its only real reason for existing is style. Unfortunately, the Camry coupe seriously lacked that. It didn’t look sportier, more luxurious, or more exciting than the sedan — it just looked like a Camry missing two doors. And that’s exactly what no one wants to buy.

The wagon was at least trying much harder. It actually made sense for the Camry brand, offering more cargo space and family-friendly practicality. However, it arrived just as the market was beginning to shift. As SUVs became more popular, wagons slowly disappeared. Buyers who once would have chosen a wagon were now drawn to higher ride heights, all-wheel drive, and a tougher image.

Toyota saw this coming. When the RAV4 was first introduced, few people could imagine it ever outselling the Camry. For decades, the Camry was one of the best-selling cars in the US. Yet over time, consumer preferences changed — and Toyota adapted. Eventually, RAV4 sales did surpass those of the Camry, something that once seemed unthinkable.

So please join me in this short video, where we look back at the Camry’s forgotten variants, changing trends in the automotive world, and what the future might hold.

I hope you find it at least entertaining .

  1. Nothing quite like a Vince Burlapp video, I always enjoy them.
Somehow I’m not surprised about your extended family, or your neighbors.
    Keep up the good work.
