New 2027 Toyota 3 row EV interior.

“Big energy. Bigger versatility. A new adventure starts February 10th. #LetsGoPlaces”. And that all we officially know about the all new Toyota 3 row SUV. Except that it will be an EV built in the US. The first one of two new 3 row EV models for North America.

Despite a series of delays that have pushed their timelines back more than once, these 2 new Toyota SUVs are still on track. Importantly, both vehicles are still expected to move forward, and both are slated to be built in the United States. One of the two is widely assumed to be a fully electric replacement for the Highlander, which would be a logical next step for Toyota’s lineup. The second vehicle, however, remains far more of a question mark. That mystery model could very well be the place where an electric Land Cruiser finally enters the picture. Previewed, (hopefully), by the Land Cruiser Se Concept.

An electric Land Cruiser would undoubtedly add yet another nameplate to Toyota’s already crowded SUV portfolio in the U.S. Even so, it could carve out a unique niche. In terms of size and overall footprint, it would likely slot above the RAV4 but below the Grand Highlander. From a pricing and branding perspective, however, it would almost certainly sit higher than both. Carrying the Land Cruiser name—combined with the inherent cost of a larger EV platform—would all but guarantee a higher starting price, even if the vehicle itself isn’t the biggest in Toyota’s stable.

Toyota’s current EV pricing offers some useful context. The newly introduced bZ Woodland starts at over $46,000, and that’s for a smaller, two-row vehicle. A larger, more premium, three-row electric SUV would almost certainly start north of $50,000, and potentially closer to $55,000 depending on features, battery size, and drivetrain options. In today’s market, that pricing isn’t out of line, especially for a vehicle positioned as more rugged or upscale.

As many have noticed already, the teaser we saw a few days ago seems to match the Toyota 3 row EV concept we saw back in 2021. It seems that after 5 years, Toyota might be finally ready to unviel the production version…

  1. Toyota has the right idea to lighten up the interior, but not in their switchgear. Honda has the right idea of continuing buttons, knobs and turning dials for all climate control/seat heating features. Really, they just need to update their interior materials and add color differentiation, and maybe get rid of the pushbutton transmissions for the large trucks – which are odd. Enough of the black, Honda!
