2028 BMW 4 series.

Since an all-new BMW 3 series sedan is just around the corner, it would be safe to expect a new 4 series coupe pretty soon.
The coupe usually follows the sedan by about a year. As we already know, the new 3 series sedan will use an architecture similar to the current car. Which makes sense since most R&D money is going to the all-new Neue Klasse EV platform these days.
Coupe sales are down, as usual. And BMW might not want to spend much of their hard earner cash on a new 2 door car. That means the “new” 4 series could end up being a heavily revised version of the current 4 series coupe. One with newly redesined front and rear ends to match the new 3 series sedan. At least, it would mean the death of the Bugs Bunny face on the 4 series. Which is not a bad thing.
Inside, BMW would probably try to match the new sedan as well.
At first glance, the next 3 Series will looks familiar. But there will be a clear inspiration from BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse design language.
However, it won’t be as daring as the fully electric BMW i3 arriving soon. That model is expected to push BMW’s design language further, acting as a true showcase for the brand’s next-generation EV philosophy.
BMW is taking a dual approach with its most important sedan, but probably not the 4 series coupe. Unless a new 2 door i4 is in the works. (Which could be since we actually saw a 2 door prototype a few months ago)
The i3 sedan will essentially serve as the sleeker, more aerodynamic counterpart to the iX3. Because of its lower stance and improved airflow, it could deliver even better electric range than the SUV. A major advantage in the competitive premium EV segment.
In an unexpected twist, BMW briefly listed its 2027 models on its website for a few hours. Notably, a BMW M350 xDrive appeared instead of the current M340i xDrive.
If that wasn’t simply a placeholder, it could signal a new naming strategy. And possibly a shift toward more electrified performance variants. BMW has already been integrating mild-hybrid systems across its lineup, so further electrification seems inevitable.
BMW’s approach may be one of the smartest in the industry right now. By offering a fully redesigned, ground-up electric i3 while continuing to evolve the gasoline-powered 3 Series, the brand ensures it doesn’t alienate loyal customers during the transition to EVs.

A truly new 4 series coupe and convertible would of course be very nice to see. Not just a revised version of the current design. However, the big news would be a production version of that futuristic 2 door coupe BMW was testing a few months ago.
Wouldn’t that be interesting…
