Dodge Also Preparing a Cheap New Compact Model Under $30,000

Apparently, Dodge is also working on an all-new compact model aimed at bringing younger buyers back into the brand. The new model would obviously be related to the upcoming Chrysler Pronto. The best part is that Stellantis might finally be serious about expanding Dodge beyond expensive muscle cars and large SUVs. That alone could be very good news for a brand that has recently become far too limited in scope.

What makes the rumored new model especially interesting is the possibility of a starting price under $30,000. That would position Dodge closer to mainstream brands like Toyota, Honda, or Kia instead of relying almost entirely on high-priced performance models. In many ways, Dodge used to thrive when it offered affordable cars with bold styling and a bit more personality than the competition. However, while a sub-$30,000 was mentioned for the New Chrysler Pronto, the Dodge was just described as “a less expensive model”. Which is pretty vague.

Let’s hope Stellantis can create a fresh design language for the brand’s next generation. Something sporty and distinctive without looking overly aggressive or cartoonish. The illustration on top shows a compact sedan/fastback/crossover that could ride on the STLA Medium platform and offer ICE, hybrid, or EV powertrains. That flexibility could finally allow Dodge to compete in several markets instead of depending mostly on high-powered niche products.

A Dodge version of a European Stellantis model with unique styling and chassis tuning could actually turn out very well. Shared platforms and technology with Peugeot or Opel could help keep costs down while still producing something modern and attractive. If done right, Dodge could end up with a more compact car that looks far more interesting than most mainstream rivals.

No matter what happens, let’s hope the US brand keeps its own identity. Not just a rebadged European Stellantis product with a different grille and logo. Dodge has always been about attitude, bold design, and performance character, even in its smaller cars. Losing that personality would make the new model far less interesting in an already crowded segment.

Just about a year ago, most attention at Dodge focused on EV muscle cars like the new Dodge Charger Daytona. But shifting toward smaller and more affordable models could actually be a smart move for the brand. Especially as the market continues moving toward hybrids and more efficient vehicles. Even brands like Alfa Romeo are now reconsidering plans to go fully electric so soon.

There’s, of course, no official word on the new Dodge model’s final shape, size, or powertrain lineup. Plans at Stellantis seem to evolve constantly. Whatever it turns out to be, the new compact Dodge was probably developed rather quickly, which raises the possibility that it could heavily borrow from existing Peugeot or Opel products. That could be disappointing if Dodge loses the proportions and road presence that traditionally made its cars feel uniquely American. At the same time, sharing global platforms may be exactly what Dodge needs to survive and finally grow beyond a one-dimensional muscle-car brand.

  1. I have a hard time believing ANY new model vehicle is going to MSRP below $30k. There is just too much pressure coming from increased labor, material and shipping costs.
