New Jaguar EV Prototype Reveals Major Design Changes for 2027 new sedan.

This is probably our best look, so far, at the all-new Jaguar EV sedan, coming out in just a few months. As we know, it will be the production version of the Jaguar 00 Concept. From the images above you can tell it will actually be quite different from the concept.

The profile view of an actual prototype seems to show an even more angular design for the production version. Especially around the rear doors. The rear fastback design also seems different. With a shorter front hood as well. And of course, the production car will have 4 doors.

The Concept version of the upcoming 00 Sedan was revealed over a year ago, in December 2024. Its production debut has been pushed back a bit to later this year. Although its base price is still rumored to be around $130,000. Which isn’t that insanely expensive these days…

Reactions to the concept have mostly been pretty negative. Which is not good news for Jag. However, it looks like the production car will not look as crazy as the concept. I guess showing the concept over a year early was part of making sure most people get used to the unorthodox shape. Helping the production design to be more acceptable to the masses. Well, at least the few who will actually buy one.

Jaguar has recently allowed a few journalists to ride in a couple of prototypes, and the “reviews” have so far been great.

This will undoubtedly be an amazing luxury sedan.

Still, the big question remains whether that will be enough in today’s crowded EV market. Jaguar is clearly aiming much higher than before, moving away from its traditional rivals and into a more exclusive segment. That alone makes this new sedan a huge gamble for the brand.

It will also be interesting to see how much of the concept’s interior makes it into production. The show car featured a very minimalist cabin with unusual materials and a futuristic layout. While impressive, some of that will have to be toned down for real-world use. Comfort, usability, and technology will matter just as much as design here.

And of course, performance figures are still mostly unknown. But expectations are high. This new EV will deliver strong range of around 450 miles, fast charging, and effortless 1000 HP. We are supposed to see the real thing in September.

In the end, this could either be the start of a bold new chapter for Jaguar. Or a very expensive misstep.

  1. A very expensive misstep after a very expensive misstep (trying to go down market in the 2000’s). Back again with another super long, super low sedan, but this time as EV. Yeah, I don’t see this surviving.

  2. jaguar is already dying as a brand!! if they choose to dig their own coffin!! anyway!! the majority!! who live in America!! I don’t think they will buy electric cars!! they will choose the opposite direction they will choose combustion engines!! the big sedan will surely fail in sales!! too bad they closed the chance for new Jaguar models with internal combustion engines!! The market is not yet ready for Electric vehicle models!! Maybe this way they will realize where they went wrong with the Jaguar brand!! and they will regret it later!!

  3. Jaguar is digging themselves into a deeper hole, please stop with this EV nonsense and go back to the original you!! Please!!

  4. The Venn diagram of people who Jaguar is after with this new higher end car and people who make comments on online posts is the picture of two circles that don’t overlap.

Online commenters hate this car and they haven’t even seen it. Meanwhile, I think the entire point is lost on so many people: to remind people Jaguar exists. Negative sentiment is powerful and can be harnessed to help the sales of this car. All the haters talking about it everywhere helps Jaguar get in front of the very few people they’re targeting with this upper echelon car.

JLR has learned they’re better at selling fewer cars at higher prices. They do best in the Range Rover class, which is a very competitive segment. Now they have a car coming out at the exact time brands like Lexus, Audi and Cadillac are offering fewer sedans than ever. Keep in mind this car is meant to be positioned tantamount to the Range Rover as a car (“road rover!”), and people who buy Range Rovers feel they’re a class above people in lowly Mercedes-Benz GLS, déclassé G-wagon, or a passé X7. And they’re kind of correct about it. “Above and beyond” is their tagline after all.

So the Lexus LS is gone, the A8 is almost surely ending, this is likely the last ever BMW 7-series. People don’t buy executive sedans the same way they used to: they get the boring German SUVs. This car is something for a forward thinking person into actual design and art that has money to blow not just on like S-class league but more like S-class AMG league.

Such a car doesn’t exist right now. I, for one, think it may very well succeed. It doesn’t need to be universally beautiful, but it does need to move the needle for Jaguar in public perception and conversations.
