Hyundai Preparing Its Most Controversial Tucson Yet for 2027.

The new images give us an ideaof what the all-new Hyundai Tucson might look like. Still, nothing is fully confirmed yet. Over the past year, countless renders and speculative illustrations of the next Tucson have surfaced online, and some were also surprisingly convincing.

That uncertainty exists because Hyundai has become one of the most unpredictable automakers when it comes to design. Unlike Kia, which has developed a more consistent and recognizable styling language across its lineup, Hyundai now gives nearly every model its own identity. However, many of the next-generation Tucson design cues will also show show up in the next-generation Elantra sedan. As well as the revised 2027 Santa Fe. We’ve also recently seen many of these LED lines in the new Ioniq V.

That approach keeps the brand fresh and experimental, but it also makes future Hyundai models far more difficult to predict and, in some cases, more controversial among buyers.

The current Hyundai Tucson has been a massive success story for Hyundai. The SUV sold more than 234,000 units last year alone, roughly 20,000 more than in 2024, making it one of Hyundai’s most important vehicles in North America. Its popularity comes from a careful balance of bold styling, practicality, technology, and strong value. Because of that success, expectations for the next-generation model are especially high.

Early rumors and spy shots suggested the redesigned Tucson could adopt a more upright and rugged appearance. While that direction aligns with today’s SUV trends, it could also be a risky move. The Santa Fe’s boxier styling has certainly attracted attention, but it has also divided opinion among longtime Hyundai buyers. If the Tucson follows that formula too closely, it could lose some of the broad appeal that helped make the current model such a strong seller.

Timing-wise, everything points toward a full redesign arriving for the 2027 model. The current Tucson debuted in 2020 and received a significant facelift in late 2023 for the 2025 model year. Based on Hyundai’s normal product cycle, the next-generation SUV is right on schedule.

Beyond the exterior changes, Hyundai will almost certainly focus heavily on updated technology, improved hybrid powertrains, and a more refined interior experience. Competition in the compact SUV segment continues to intensify, especially against rivals like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Kia Sportage.

Fortunately, Hyundai also has a history of softening some of its more extreme design elements before production begins. That means the final Tucson could strike a much better balance than these early images suggest, retaining some visual drama while introducing a cleaner and more mature overall look.

And honestly, that may be exactly what the Tucson needs.

If these leaked images turn out to be close to the real thing, the next-generation Tucson looks like it could become one of Hyundai’s boldest redesigns yet. The big question is whether buyers will embrace the change or prefer the more balanced design of the current model.
