A Chrysler Comeback May Include a Surprising New 300 Successor

The good news is that the Chrysler brand is far from dead, and new models are on their way. For real this time. However, it seems most, if not all, of these new cars will be versions of vehicles from either Fiat or Peugeot. That doesn’t mean the new Chryslers will never have their own design. But at least, they won’t for a while. Stellantis has already shown the Fiat Grizzly, which will be used for the new Chrysler Arrow. And the new Chrysler Airflow seems to be a version of the new Jeep Cherokee. Although the Chrysler does look completely different.

It seems that if Chrysler really wants to introduce a new sedan, there will not be that many Stellantis models to pick from. Except maybe the new DS N°8. A DS N°8-based new 300 sedan seems like a logical move for Stellantis, as it could also be done rather quickly. The DS N°8 is an all-new sedan model and is, so far, EV-only in Europe. With the largest battery available, it is rated at 470 miles in the European test cycle. However, the platform is flexible enough to include a variety of powertrains.

That same platform will also be used for the upcoming Lancia Gamma, which itself is a version of the DS N°7 crossover introduced earlier.

Of course, that would mean a new 300 would not truly be seen as a “real Chrysler” by many, and would not be able to include a V8 powertrain. Although I’m not sure how many car buyers would actually choose a V8 these days. This could still upset many hardcore, probably older, Chrysler 300 fans. I guess a new Chrysler sedan doesn’t have to be called a 300…

With three new models on their way, Chrysler will be back soon. It also seems that sedans are making a timid comeback in the U.S. You’d think it could be a good idea for the brand to get ready.

There’s hope…

  1. If a reworked, rebadged, and reincarnated 300 would be good enough for Rod Garza, it’d be good enough for me.

  2. I think that kind of news or rumors would bring tears to Mr.Garza’s tired eyes…

  3. First of all, a few points: a DS8 is a lot smaller than the last 300. Its sized like the 200.
That Lancia you show is not quite as large as a Corolla Cross.
The gray car would be a good Chrysler 200 and is an appropriate size for the brand to restart their lineup. Don’t start with a Civic sized sedan. But do give it a real name and some actual headlights.
The new Chrysler symbol s**ks. I bet they spent the last 5 years working on that.

  4. The DS No8 and Lancia Gamma are both awkward looking vehicles and I would never wish to see them in Chrysler’s lineup.

With Chrysler being recast as the mainstream family vehicle brand, I think it would be appropriate for the brand to receive a compact sedan and a midsize sedan based on the recently revealed STLA One platform. Of course, they would need to be super reliable and executed at a high level if Chrysler has any hopes of challenging the mainstays (Civic, Corolla, Accord, and Camry) in the market. Of course, I would prefer them to receive actual names instead of some meaningless alpha-numeric hogwash designations.

I know the “300” moniker is a historic nameplate with a lot of market recognition, but slapping it on vehicles that don’t remotely resemble what the name represents just dilutes the impact and prestige of the name.
