Acura Has One More Chance to Make the Integra Special.

While Acura just slightly refreshed the Integra for 2026, a new generation could be on its way in a couple of years. A new Civic is due at the end of this year and a redesigned Acura Integra could switch to the new Civic platform as well.

I think the new Integra was a really good idea. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to offer much more than a loaded Honda Civic, for quite a bit more. It does look fine, but not that great either. A new generation based on the next generation Civic could look much better as well. Let’s face it, Acura designers still did a pretty good job with what they were given to start with, the Honda Civic hatchback. Which is, in my opinion, one of the very worst looking Civic ever.

If given something much better looking with anew platform, a next generation Acura Integra could be pretty attractive. And this time around, it really would need to offer a Hybrid powertrain. One with more power than the Civic. Honda really needs to learn from the huge mistake they just made with the Prelude. A car that is over $8000 more than the Civic hybrid Touring it is based on. With less standard feature and the exact same power. A new Integra really needs to offer more than a loaded Civic. It also needs to get its own interior.

Some journalists have already driven test mules of the next Civic and have said these prototypes are already lower than the current Accord. This means a lower sportier design would fit a next-generation Integra very well.

I know Honda is desperate to recoup some cash, but going cheap on the Integra or Prelude doesn’t even make any sense. Sales of the compact Acura sedan have come down to about 20,000 units last year. A modern, good looking and slightly upscale Acura sedan should be more popular than this.

Let’s hope they really try harder next time, if there even is a next time…

  1. If Honda wants to sell Integras, then they need to incentivize the potential audience (normie crossover buyers) to actually look at and consider them. If they aren’t going to making it a possible alternative for people looking at something like the RDX in a market where most sales are CUVs, then 99% of buyers aren’t going to care.

They were on the right track by making it a liftback (like Tesla does) but they still need to make it a more compelling option than the Civic by at least giving people the option to purchase features seen on other Acura models…

Ventilated seats, acoustic laminated window glass, better sound insulation, more unique interior with nicer upscale materials and a more contemporary digital dashboard, power adjustable passenger seat, heated steering wheel, and of course a hybrid option with good torque output and better fuel efficiency.

I’ll also go ahead and say it even though it’s cringe, but they’d probably grab attention if they offered SH-AWD on a higher trim line, with the same rear-torque vectoring system from the RDX. So many manufacturers are offering some kind of AWD method even on bread and butter cars, like their closest competitors (Mazda3, Golf R, the next gen Corolla, even some Kias). Imagine Acura actually competing with their competition…

Honda needs to offer all the same stuff everyone else is offering, or even what they’re offering on the other models within their own lineup. Otherwise the Integra is going nowhere.

  2. I purchased the 26 Integra and am sorry I did. Cheap doesn’t begin to describe this vehicle. The ride is rough, the road noise is ridiculous, the leather is cheap. There are gaps where it should line up, the hood for example. There are imperfections on many vehicles. For 40 k the mirrors should fold in, the seats should automatically adjust when you enter and exit. No compass c’mon Acura. Sending out your flyer to tell ppl their first oil change should be at 7500 for the free service is too long. Not to mention the car charger barely charges all you get from service is the magnet in the iPhone impedes it from charging. Really , does Acura not know how many ppl have iPhones. I have purchased many new cars, I have been so disappointed with the Acura dealerships. The upselling when you go for your oil change is ridiculous. They put options on this vehicle that is just not necessary, the paddles on the steering wheel waste if money. The stop start feature should go. But I guess the biggest disappointment was when I complained about my hood gap and all I received by service was let me show you all the imperfections on this new Acura you have less. So I guess that should make me happy. Loved when he said well that’s Acura. I’m thinking that meant I shouldn’t have bought an Acura.
