The 2028 CR-V Could Be a Big Change for Honda.

We have seen a few Honda spy shots recently. Most agree that they could be showing the next-generation Honda CR-V. The illustrations above do match the spy shots, up to a point. As the real thing might turn out to be a more angular design. Which seems to be a trend these days. Just look at the next Hyundai Tucson.

The next Honda CR-V will be based on the new Honda Hybrid Platform. The one that will give us the new Civic, Crosstour and Acura RDX. That means the new CR-V will be very closely related to the next-generation RDX. The current RDX and CR-V are not that closelly related. While they do share a basic platform, the RDX has been modified. It is also still using Honda’s great 2.0 Liter Turbo. Future generations of both models will probably use the same Hybrid powertrains. Hopefully the more expensive Acura will have more power. Or something. However, many current Acura models don’t have a power advantage over their Honda cousins.

The current CR-V is Honda’s best seller with over 403,000 units sold last year alone. Its best year ever!

Honda is under tremendous preasure to not rock that boat. Especially after loosing billions by developping EVs and moronically deciding at the last minute against producing them. I guess the new platform is stronger, lighter and about 10% more efficient. (That’s what they say). That would mean around 45MPG combined for the 2028 model. With such high sale numbers, the new CR-V doesn’t even have to be much better than the old one. In any way. People don’t care.

The illustrations above show what a next-generation Honda CR-V based on the new platform could look like. A design that uses a few design cures from the recently introduced Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype. Which is a preview of the upcoming Honda Crosstour.

  1. Honda lightened their current 1.5turbo engine by reducing block and piston thicknesses. That was a mistake. Its had head gasket issues, oil dilution, and throws pistons under max compression from the turbo. Simply making the powertrain lighter isn’t necessarily an advantage.

  2. Honda needs to stop charging more for making their models Acuras without also increasing engine power. Paying more for the same vehicle should ALWAYS include a bump in power – even if it is a modest one. But I realize that Honda isn’t alone in not increasing power over the standard model.

  3. Good overall shape, but there’s something not quite right in the center of the front bumper.

  4. I agree that Acura needs to up its game in performance. I will also add noise isolation
