2017 Buick Envision
Last Updated:
The Envision is the midsize crossover Buick really needs. Right now.
The Enclave is old. A new one is still at least a year (or two) away.
And the Encore is just too small to sell in big numbers.
So a Buick version of the Cadillac XT5 is what they need.
It came out in China a few months ago. Now we hear a USD version will be on sale next spring.
That’s the good news.
The bad news? We also hear it will be imported from China.
Which is quite a big deal.
So far (as far as I know) the only mainstream Chinese import we get here is a few units of the Volvo S60.
Now Buick!
To calm things down, GM is only rumored to import 30 000 to 40 000 units a year.
But you know that if it’s popular, they’ll bring over plenty more.
And you know that once they get a taste of that cheap Chinese labor, there is no turning back.
And so it begins….
The interior is from previous generation Kia Optima, just very Chinese looking style wise. The exterior is from the current generation Kia Rondo. Fact check me, no joke.
Regardless on who / where it's built, it's a fine looking car. I love the interior.
True. Once GM and the other automakers see that there is no pushback from consumers for the Chinese manufacture, they will definitely be looking to import more. I blame the UAW. Look at the latest contract – big wage gains, huge signing bonuses etc. It's 2015 and the economy isn't that great, why do the automakers need to bribe the workers just to show up?
I agree completely with: November 16, 2015 at 4:33 AM — It IS a great-looking car–especially the dash; but I also agree with: November 16, 2015 at 5:03 AM It's a turning point.
I went to the auto show in Miami and closed the door of the plug-in XC90 and it rattled like a saw. Absolute Junk. However this did not occur on the regular model….the difference in build quality was unbelievable. However GM has their act together with their Korean built vehicles, so they should be on the up and up.
