2013 Toyota Avalon

Last Updated:

Looking really modern for 2013.
Now better suited to do battle with the LaCrosse and the new Azera.

Pretty much the same recipe as before, in a much more attractive design. Which will probably work very well for Toyota.

  1. I really like it. I'm glad Toyota is starting to wake up to better designs. I think this car will be a runaway hit. It does a hell of a job at beating Obama Motors at their own game. (Impala, Mali-blah). Interior very cool.

  2. It's nice you can see it's at least a redesign this time but this looks way too much like Hyundai Azera design copy.

Front mixed in with Fusion '13?!

  3. A notable improvement on the previous Avalon/Pronard designs, even a bit like a somewhat bloated Audi a7, but the new Azera looks better in every way and will likely be both more full-featured and less expensive with a much longer warranty.

  4. I think it looks much nicer than the outgoing model, but will it be worth around 40K? For a few thousand more you can get a nicely equipped Lexus ES…

  5. The Azera kills the new Avalon in both the exterior and interior shots that I have seen. The Toyota might have a slightly more refined engine and greater reliability, but Hyundai's warranty and price make it the clear choice in the near luxury, large car segment.

  6. How is it that a new lower front grill design debuts on this car… and the new Ford Fusion… at the very same time?

    Who is sleeping with who?

  7. front end needs to be redone, and make it a driver's car not a floater. feel the road, command the corners.

  8. This looks a million times better than the new Impala. I have to say that Toyota did a really good job here.

The Avalon has always been a great car, now it just looks better. Can't wait to see the comparison tests with this and the new Azera, and the Impala will get smoked like it always does.

  9. The Toyota display was completely empty yesterday. The only non-employee people I saw were just walking through to the other side because Toyota is by the main entrance. This car is as invisible as you'd expect a Toyota to be.

  10. All that chrome up front is hideous, the rest is boring. Interior looks ok but has a cheap look to it. sorry not good enough

  11. "The Toyota might have a slightly more refined engine and greater reliability"
… well, not according to my experience with the CURRENT Avalon!!!!

This dash is a vast improvement over the current one! Exterior looks like a Sonata with a warped 2013 Fusion grill — not horrible, but hardly great.

$40K??? I hardly think so. For that kind of money I'd be looking at just about anything else. But for the price I paid for the last Avalon, well then I could see it ($27k after discounts)

  12. "This looks a million times better than the new Impala. I have to say that Toyota did a really good job here."

And we have the Toyota social media shills in the house. Seriously, it's like clockwork.

  13. The interior is stunning, that exterior is not bad at all, but I couldn't help but think Hyundai Sonata Hybrid when I first saw the front end.

  14. Hmm…an Aston-esque grill, honda Civic angular headlights and chevron, Kia optima rear end, slab sides. Yes..really quite original… Interior has a nice geriatric appeal to it though…perhaps they should offer a "JitterBug" buttoned version. All for 40K…yup retirees, empty those 401K's for this impotent statement of an automobile.

  15. Not bad for a Toyota, Nice interior and hopefully that rather large mouth will look better in person than it does in these photos.

  16. Maybe I was expecting much more than this but really? Compared to the new Azera, this is shallow half-baked redesigned.

Will work for the geriatric crowd and the current Toyota captives but it won't bring new brand conquests which is what you need to do to grow more market share in a segment like this.

    Azera wins this one.

    Shills? LOL

I guess that makes me the second person who thinks the Impala looks terrible as well.

  18. impala is a fat ugly beast, this car is an emotionless dud, the Nissan Altima, now there's style!!!!!!

  19. Anon 9:20,

But you do realize that just because you don't like a Chevy, that it doesn't make this Avalon any better, right? I've seen both, and the Impala is attractive enough to be inoffensive and good enough to now be considered by people who wouldn't have given it a second glance. OTOH, the Avalon is truly a steaming pile of design-challenged crap. If anything, the Avalon has regressed.

  20. The Impala was a dissappointment.
    But so is this.
    40K???????????????????

    I think I'll take a 300HP / 31 MPG Chrysler 300, thank you!

  21. Hate to write this, but the front (an ugly one) is familiar from Sonata Hybrid, rear is familiar from ANY Sonata, the interior with a center stack layout from Optima (or older Saabs) is familiar as well

  22. Vince, who in the heck said this thing is going to be $40,000?!?

Why are people talking about $40K when the last one started in the low 30's.

The NEW Avalon will start in the low 30's and come very nicely equipped. You people have no idea of what you are talking about.

  23. Toyota and Honda need to hire some European designers and start with a clean sheet. Fussy details such as the gaping mouth front end and ugly dashboard are deal breakers in my book.

  24. I like the new Azera, but I'm having a hard time calling it "near luxury" when it is missing so many features that cars like this new Avalon have, such as rain sensing wipers, blind spot monitor, and advanced cruise control. The S Korean version of the Azera has the options, but the took them off the US version for some reason….perhaps to keep the price lower.
