2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Last Updated:

The Genesis coupe will be updated for the next year.
It is widely rumored that both engines will be getting a bump in horsepower. Especially the base 2.0 Liter Turbo which could jump from 210 to over 270.

Not sure what else will be changed, besides the usual new grille/bumper/lights combo.

I test drove the Genesis coupe last year and was very impressed. I think of it as a cross between the Nissan Z and Infiniti G37 coupe. At a much lower price.

Glad to see they even found room for improvement.

  1. This is one car that had me going "Huh?" in photos…but when you see it in person it totally works. You see the rear side window not as a dip into the rear quarter panel but rather as the front fender bulge sweeping up into the front side window -and that gives it a muscular presence. The rear quarter is strong, wide and tall and has more appeal than a Vette imho. The front view is wide, low and powerful…however the grille opening and insert is lacking and I'm sure that's the biggest update for the 2012 model.
My neighbor just got a 3.8 Track in bright yellow and as I did a 360-walkaround got a little lightheaded with "car-passion".
On another note have seen many new Elantra's on the road and they are HOT, not looking at all like an economy sedan. Hyundai is putting passion and economy on the same level.

  2. I cant believe no reviews of this car ever mentioned how weak/distorted/cheapo looking the front fascia is not this car.

It take a sport/luxo coupe and puts a 3 generations ago elantra front end on it.

I pray they give it something more sophisticated – as I thin its the main reason we never see these things on the road.

  3. Overall, the car looks great in person from the rear angle. I do agree with the earlier post, in that the front looks bad. LIke a cheap economy car. Hopefully they will fix this, because I have only seen maybe two on the road that didn't have dealer tags.

  4. I agree with both of the March 9 AM comments.. the Genesis coupe has an attractive presence on the road, from most angles.. but the front end is definitely the weak point. Hoping for something more distinctive and dramatic.. and dumping the "H" from the grille should be job one!

  5. It is a good looking car right now, so should be a nice refreshing. The front end needs the most work.
They really need to ditch the crooked H emblem, and go with the Genesis emblem. Which is what most of thier buyers do anyway.
If they can't ditch the Hyundai nameplate, that crooked H needs a symmetrical redesign at least.
Probably would wind up close to the Honda emblem, but they could find something to make it work.

  6. I dont mind the front, to me it's when you sit inside. It screams cheap to me. Hard crappy, ill-fitted plastics everywhere. The exterior is fine, I just never cared for that dipping rear window. But inside is where you spend your time.

I never saw ONE SINGLE REVIEW where the professional journalist complained about the fit and finish on the Genesis Coupe.

    Try again, guy.

Toyota's FT86 will kill this car.

Right, with nearly the same base price and FAAARRRR less horsepower from both the N/A version and the rumored turbo version.

    Get real.

  8. "Try again guy"? You base all your own thoughts of what you think on what is written in reviews? Guess you can't make judgements on your own. I'm sorry.

    I've driven multiple.

    I've taken a 3.8 R-Spec around Summit Point about a month ago, and last summer I lapped a 3.8 Track and a 2.0 Track.

Yeah, I am all set for making my own decision. The Genesis is an awesome vehicle for the money, and its performance is only second to the new V6 Mustang with the performance package.
