What could have been: Nissan Fairlady Z
Last Updated:
These pictures are from 1966, and show early designs of the first generation Z.
The bottom photo even shows what an optional hardtop would look like on a convertible version.
The actual car started production 3 years later. And ended up looking much better.
Still looking great today.
That would have been an interesting 60s version leading up to the 70s and up versions we have since enjoyed.
Nissan designs were all pretty bad in the '60s & '70s. (Remember all those ugly Datsuns?)
Interresting that they have, (since the French bought them out of bankrupcy) now become some of the most well-designed cars on the road. Far Far surpassing anything from rival Japanese Companies.
Notice how fat the tires are.
Not ridiculously low profile tires with little shock absorbing depth the way sport car tires are today.
Looks like a blend of Lancia and Jaguar E-type. Wouldn't have been a bad Z but the production version turned out much better
Good stuff, more scoops like this would be great!
It has that real boxy Nissan look doesn't it! I had a Nissan for years and loved it, one of my favourite cars.

Seeing an optometrist might be in order. eg Nissan Versa, etc.
Nissan has always been at the forefront of technology and performance, a much richer and deeper heritage than honda and Toyota that continues today in the Z car and GTR etc….
Amazing how the current 2011 370Z's profile resembles this 45 year old design. Not a bad thing.
japanese-italian style. I like it.
