2012 VW Golf Cabrio
Last Updated:
It is back. After 9 years.
And looking pretty good.
Cheaper than the Eos, but not sure yet if it’ll be cheaper than the Beetle.
There is about $5000 difference between the Eos and Beetle convertible, so there could be room for something .
Although I think this should be cheaper than the $27 000 Beetle convertible.
VW would then have a slice of the convertible market for themselves.
Who knows…
Clean/boring design… and very little else.
Last time I was on a VW lot the Eos they had was $40,000. I would have laughed out loud, but it was more the kind of bad joke that elicits a groan.
So this appears to have more features on the base model than the Eos with the exception of the hard top….interesting.
I know what girls want…girls want!
Why this and the Eos??
I like it. I think it might be a lil more manly then the eos
its ugly. its fugly.
Laura Holt would approve
It's a Volkswagen. Backward lackluster styling, poor reliability, horrible customer service, and it's overpriced. Sign me up!

No… No It's Not.
It's not a groundbreaking design, but it's good looking. Everyone that I know who owns a VW/Audi has only positive things to say about them.
I own a VW (an old Cabrio) and used to own a Passat, and I can't think of many good things to say about them. They are expensive to maintain and repair. My Passat was a horrible car, bought it new and traded it just as the warranty was due to expire. Service was awful, I hated brining in the car because the techs were so condescending and arrogant. I would never consider buying another one. But I am glad that someone knows people who got good ones. Everyone I know who had them got rid of them because they are just not worth the constant money that you have to put into them.
To Anon 3:22… I'll agree that they are pricy to maintain, and it's important that you keep up with it as the schedule requires and as things wear out. I've owned just about every brand of car, and I will say that VWs are among the best brands and will outlast any Asian or domestic car. But they aren't cheap, that's for sure. My dealer experience has been very good.
To anon 7:05… I know a couple who doesn't love their VW. They had to pay to have the window regulator fixed on their seven year old car and now they are vocally anti-VW. They are not really "into" cars and have no understanding of what's reasonable to expect from one. They should have probably just bought a numb-driving Toyota.

So what is the point of reintroducing the Golf soft-top convertible on the OUTGOING bodystyle? Other than possibly sharing roof tooling costs with the upcoming Audi A3 soft-top convertible? Or maybe it is just an interim model until the New New Beetle convertible returns in 2013-2014 (which would also be about the time an all-new Golf debuts).
