2011 VW Jetta: more pictures

I do think it looks really classy on these pictures.
This is the kind of car that probably does look great in person.
The 2,5 Liter is now confirmed for the US. Which is fine.
From my experience driving a few VW models with this engine, gas mileage is actually similar to a larger 2.4 Liter 4 cylinder engine in real life daily driving.
And it is really smooth.
At about $16 000 for the base model, it means a loaded model could be about $23 000.
Similar to the Kia Forte I drove a few weeks ago.
I think this will be a big hit for VW in the US, if they can get the quality up to the competition.
It reminds me of something from 2002.
Big improvement over the current Jetta which looks too much like a Corolla.
I like it. Much better looking than the last one. GLI 2.0T DSG please.
I wish they blended more of the current jetta into this design, but it's fine either way; I saw it's live reveal at times square and it looks WAY better then these pics, but because of it's soberly conservative attitude, I get more of a upscale mitsubishi vibe then what Im used to expecting from vw
Dull as dishwater, but tidy, well proportioned and sensible. Obviously designed for that strangely conservative market of yours.
Vince, you are the ONLY person who has found the inline five to be smooth and just as efficient as a larger displacement four cylinder.
I think this thing is boring as all get out and it isn't going to cut it, rather like the current Jetta. I am confident that the upcoming Focus, Elantra, and Civic will walk all over this.
Has always been a great car. now with a great price they will sell lots of them.
Man, what a snoozer.
this car will sell because people like boring and conservative design.
but true this design does look very dated.
VW is late in the game since their ex designer, who was hired away by KIA has already introduced the same front design….
I thought they are doing 3 gas engines and 1 diesel for the US with 4 cyl 115hp, 5 cyl 170hp, and the 2 liter turbo with 200+ hp. Starting point will be closer to $17k from what I heard.
BTW, this is a stunning car. It will be timeless and classy. I wonder how many people might buy this one over the A4. I wish they would have done such a great job to the Jetta Wagon instead of just recycling the current aspects.

I beg to differ that they have always been great cars. The late- 90's through mid 2000's Mexican built Jetta was pretty crappy. With all of the competition in this market, and with VW's poor reputation, I think they need more than an innocuous design to compete.
Without the VW badges, it could be mistaken for a number of Asian cars.. The rear end is especially bland.
Maybe after the FWD cars VW introed in the 1970s, now, some 35-40 years later, VW will be able to match quality of the Asians, but knowing VW as well as I do, I doubt it very much.
I think this is a huge improvement, but something about the upper grille bothers me, really makes the car look awkward
