  1. They must want to be all like "mea culpa" in an attempt to get past this. But the reality is that they've had a lot of conspicuous quality issues beyond this that they've foolishly disputed. Buick has stolen Toyotas mojo in both quality and design. Even Toyota's lackey, Consumer Reports, took away the Camry's "recommended" rating. And on their homepage, they have a "what to do if your car accelerates out of control" article with a picture of a Venza. After a horrible experience in a Corolla in the mid 90s, I gave up on Toyota. So I'm loving this.

  2. I had a 2006 Scion tC, and it had the same engine as the Camry. It would have it's throttle cut off and stall around hard corners for about a second and then everything would come back online! Scary!!! I got rid of it and don't think I'll ever try a Toyota product again (i am 23, bought it new and have told everyone I know about Toyota "quality").

Don't be surprised if the tC and second-gen xB get added in there!

  3. Well, they wanted to be the biggest car maker. Sound like a repeat of GM. Can VW be next?
I would be happy to be a number 2 car maker and build quality cars that sell in small numbers then to be number one and sell alot of cars just to be number one.

  4. Remember setting the record straight… Hmm how will they defend that response now with this late response?

I also wonder how long they will suspend it. How complex is it to fix this issue? It's not that we never had gas pedals in there before…

I could'nt have said this better myself.

Also, I like all the, we're high quality, stuff in the latest Toyota commercials.

  6. All manufacturers are responsible for validating thier suppliers parts. To try to blame this on a supplier is not taking responsibility and will/should not go over well.

It's about time people started looking at American cars again!

  7. My how the tables have turned. If this was a Korean manufacturer, it would have been more than 9 commets on here. Its funny everytiem a japense car slips up, no one says nothing and try to cover it up like nothing is wrong but let it be an American or Korean car and commets would be everywhere.

  8. I still believe that Toyotas are excellent cars, but when I last shopped for a car at the end of the 2003 model year, I settled on a Honda instead: 2004 Accord EX-L 4 cylinder sedan (no need for a V6 in that car.

That Honda Accord is the best car I've ever owned and I'd recommend the Accord to anyone.

  9. Anon 8:07…

I think that most people are agreeing that Toyota sucks balls and they deserve what they're getting. For those who aren't responding, they're still digesting the fact that Toyota is a colossal mess and they produce garbage. Regarding what people "would" say if this was about a Korean car…. not too worry, Korean cars still suck too.

lol you were actually the 11th comments, you should know that this blog takes like a whole day to update and display the comments.

anyway, at least on this site, recently, every time toyota comes up with a new model, everyone attacks its quality, same with honda, except that ppl attack honda's appearance instead of quality. so as far as i am concern, ppl probably attack japanese brands the same amount if not more than the domestic/koreans

  11. The problem seems to be steming from the US local content.
Maybe sourcing the parts from japan could solve the problem.
No other Toyotas around the world are having problems with accelerator pedals.

  12. If the Matrix is there – so too must be the Pontiac Vibe. That said – this can't really be for the U.S. only. The RAV4 [And Corolla too – I think] are made in CANADA. And I'm quite sure Canadian market RAV4's have the exact same gas pedal. I think this is a smart move on Toyota's part. Deal with it in a rather dramatic way to 'prove' to consumers that you are taking this very seriously. I wonder what will happen if they can't figure out the problem. Hmm…. Could be interesting.

  13. ya like i want one of the other models that remain for sale, let's see I can't have that one, or that one or that one , but I can have this one. No thanks, and BTW looks good on ya toyota.

  14. Too bad for Toyota. Toyota is getting too big and cannot keep up their quality control, just like what happened to GM. As for Honda, they are doing a pretty good job in their quality control. We currently own 2 Honda's – a 2002 Accord SE and a 2007 Accord EX. Both have not spent a day in the dealership for any repairs. And my son is getting ready to buy a Civic Si. They may not have the best selling car in the U.S. but certainly they have the most reliable cars in their lineup.

  15. well well well. When there is a problem with your toyota, they tell you the problem is with you. That cocky attitude that has existed forever, is the reason soooo many are happy that this company finally got hit hard. It's good honest people like Vince and his blog that share the truth and don't avoid publishing frank comments. Toyota's problem accelerators sticking have allegedly killed people since 1999 (apparantly). That's what a Toyota spokesman said. Wow, wtf were they doing not fixing it earlier ??, too costly? tarnish their image? woa, I will avoid this brand now for sure.

  16. This is what happens when you have the Japanese design things. Toyota grew too big and they should be at risk of leaving the US Market like Audi. Now Audis are amazing.

  17. It's ironic though that an Audi poster comments about that, considering it was Audi that famously blamed its drivers in the sudden acceleration cases in the 1980s. The result was a collapse in sales. If Toyota does the same thing, I wouldn't be surprised at a similar backlash.

  18. Toyota deserves all the heat they get on this issue. In their greedt race to become a big, fat, bloated, company dependent on SUVs and too many overlapping car lines, Toyota has now become the Japanese GM.

  19. Good I tired of seeing a Camry on the road. By a Mazda 6 or new Sonata something different get out of the Camry routine. "I don't know anyting about cars but see all I see is Camrys and Corollas duh I'm gonna join the crowd too".

  20. didn't see it posted & want everyone to know that
Stop-Sale is the LAW with defective vehicles.

Thugota isn't doing ANYbody any favors.

Also the Lexoid ES & probably the IS if not All their vehicles …eventually.

Seems informed opinion believes the problem is more likely a control system design flaw – or multiple flaws – that have caused a fatal interaction.

Just wait for more deaths AFTER things have been "fixed" …the 'first time'

  21. It comes down to the incompetance of the local parts suppliers.
They should get dragged through the hot coals as well.

  22. toyota dealers are telling people toyota is proactive and that they suggest other companies may not have been so proactive… Proactive????? They have had issues since 1999 and they had a Camry bulletin according to ABC news that the Camry had accelerator related issues in 2002. They were forced to stop sales legally. That's not what proactive means.

  23. >Toyota is the new "GM". And Honda the new "Chrysler".

    LOL :)))

Don't even try to compare japanese vs US cars. Incomparable quality. No other Toyotas around the world are having problems with accelerator pedals.

  24. "Don't even try to compare japanese vs US cars. Incomparable quality. No other Toyotas around the world are having problems with accelerator pedals."

Actually, you're wrong. Toyotas recalls are now worldwide. This has everything to do with their overstated quality, arrogance and terribly designed vehicles. Their issues have nothing to do with US automakers. But I do see a Camry as today's version of the best selling Cutlass Supreme from the 80s. It's amazing how history repeats itself. If your goal is to appeal to everyone, eventually, you'll appeal to no one.

  25. Actually, you're wrong. Toyotas recalls are now worldwide.

Wrong, i have seen Toyotas media release and so far Australia and New Zealand arn't affected.

  26. "It comes down to the incompetance of the local parts suppliers."

GUESS AGAIN! This is a DESIGN flaw. The problem exists in other countries as well; but politics being what they are; on the US Federal Government has FORCED Toyota to address it! And even the mighty US Government has had to fignt Toyota for months & moths to get ANY action on this. Take a closer look at the obituaries of Toyota owners in Europe, Japan, China, Brazil, Mexico, and especially Canada. It's a real EYE-OPENER!!!

  27. The NY Times has cast much doubt on Toyota's claims that "sticky gas pedals" were a significant factor (in their runaway vehicles). Of more than 2,000 motorist complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the last decade, just 5% blamed a sticking gas pedal. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has conducted eight investigations into sudden-acceleration problems in Toyotas over the last few years; none of which identified a sticking pedal. Others have called the whole Toyota trainwreck "a Red Herring" which may lead to discovery of significant design mistakes (painstakingly covered up) in several Toyota & Lexus vehicles over the last decade or so.

    So much for resale value!

    OH WHAT A FEELING!!!
