Is this the new US Corolla???

it’s not the Euro hatchback.
And it is not the Japan market sedan.
This could be a first look at the Corolla sold in the US early next year.
And it does look so much better than the Japanese sedan version.
But is it good enoughh to go against the Civic?
I’d rather check out the new (upcoming) Lancer, even with 140HP, first.
I bet this will have 140HP, 40 MPG hwy(just like Civic) but cost maybe 1K or so less than competing Civics(model vs model).
It looks ok, but I’d rather have a 3 or 5 door.
Since seems no one is gonna make such a campact-border line midsized car…. I’d go for the Lancer.
Why? Well, civic looks like a science experiment(and they have some odd seat cushion that “attacks” you when you move , in an “un-fun” way for most hetrosexuals).
The Elantra? It is too pricey these days for what ya get.
Corolla? It’s ok,but has anyone heard of the term” Secretary Car?” or “old persons” car, or even “appliance”?

This car does not look to bad.
Last time I heard, it was coming in the spring 2007 as a 2008 model.
Vince sounds on target. Have heard Spring/Summer.
Anyhow, heard it will be aorund 180 in length…. that is only 1/2 foot shorter than the New Kia Optima, and maybe 10-11 inches shorter than a Sebring… so, it’s close to a midsized sedan(maybe a late 80’s, early-mid 90’s mid-sized sedan , in length?).
I will check one out. Heard there might be a hydrid version, too(maybe not next Summer, but not too far away)? Vince, ya hear anything about this?
If it got in the low-mid50’s MPG, under 20K (or around there), fairly loaded…. could be very tempting.
Of course, if they have a normal gas versdion with 40-42mpg hwy… for 16-18K loaded(or enough equiptment for most people to be happy with)….. then would the “premium” of say 1,500-2K more for the hybrid be worth it9and if ya drive like we do, 30-35K per year, and have to replace the battery at 125-150K, for 3K… then the extra MPG hyrbid vs normal engine does not seem like a good idea).
I’ll wait for hydrogen(Honda will have a fuel cell/hydrogen car outby 08, think it was on thecarconnection.com, and a ton of other hydrogen info…. about infrastructure, etc….on daily news for the 17th).

You post stuff before anyone else, or even when others Don’t post stuff(like the new SX4 Sedan, even though you don’t seem to like it….??? The only other “pix” are on edmunds, and they still are showing the covered “spy photo”, lol).
Even this Corolla picture is Not Out Yet…… I checked!
Guess this is the one my area will be getting. Pretty good design which looks like a baby camry and a bit of IS influence at the bumper. Overall a conservative design, one you would expected from toyota volume model. I have seen the rear from other site and I have to say it is the worst aspect of the car.
Looks very similar to the camry. Not sure if thats a good thing.
Vince, I just don’t know how you work your magic when it comes to obtaining these photos, but yes I can tell you from first hand experience that this is indeed the reworked 2008 Corolla for the North American market. As you can see it looks just like a smaller version of the successful Camry design with just a few tweaks here and there. We are also working on a 2 door coupe which has a very good chance of seeing the light of day as a Corolla SR5!
Looks like a mini-Camry or a big Yaris. Pretty bland compared to the Civic. Nice front end, but everything behind the fenders from what we can see looks a bit boring.

Now THIS looks good. We can finally put an end to the “is this the us corolla” posts. It does indeed look like it could be. It even has the new corporate snout.
How is it that Toyota can build such reliable cars, yet they can’t design anything worth a damn? Is it that they are really that well built, or is it that the people that buy these dull little cars have lower expectations? Regardless, these design-challenged little nothing cars are the lowest rung in the automotive food chain. If I were a secretary or a shampoo girl, I’d probably feel compelled to look at a Corolla. But I’m not, so I don’t.
it does look like it, it resembles a large yars! I hope this is it, it has no where near the finesse of the civic and no where near the agressive panache of the new Sentra! Toyota may have made a blunder, other than all the poor quality recalls of late .

Lots of people consider cars nothing more than an appliance. They want it to reliably start and go when they need it to without guzzling gas. The Corolla has provided millions with just such an appliance. So instead of insulting people’s profession, try to understand the needs they have for personal transportation.
This the Corolla that was launched for the Chinese market……
I heard this is a Chinese market Corolla Toyota is planning to launch.

I think this is a proper Corolla.
I hope it has 1.8l engine with dual vvt-i, to boost the hp & mpg from the current 1.8l vvti.
I agree that it doesn’t look good or bad. It’s that “classic” look you get from most Japanese cars. 10 years from now, it’ll still look ok, not old (like German cars).
I’m really looking forward for this, as a replacement for my 1998 Corolla.
I still won’t buy the 1st year model tho, even if it’s a toyota. Learned that the hard way when I bought my 2004 Solara.

I would design a corolla like they did the tC, Sporty, not dull.
Or perhjaps even go out on a limb, and make it next Gen Lancer like?

Unlike say a 300C, or maybe even a Fusion(they are ok… I wouldn’t buy one), that look different, in good or bad ways, this is dull as dishwater(as they used to say in England).

Here’s a true story:
Corolla:
I was getting our tC an oil chnage, and I was wandering around the new car lot of Toyota.
There was a gal maybe 19 and her mom, looking at cars. I said” try a tC”, it costs less than a fully loaded Corolla, but ya lose 3 mpg, but have a nicer car.
The girl just siad she was looking at the 2006 Corolla (I forgot the letter designation). This was 6 months ago…
Anyhow… she got the “girl’s version” of the Corolla(I know, the tC is an Avenesis; picky-pciky).
I know another woman who owns a Corolla.
Guys? I honestly do NOT know of any.
Elantra, on the other hand, 50/50.
Civic, about the same, give or take a % here or there.
Sentra(who cares?).
I am a guy…. and I might look at this. But if the new Lancer is 1/2 of what the internet says it’ll be… forget this thing, even if I lose 4-5 mpg.
If I got to look at it for 5 years( on payments)… I don’t want to have to sneak out , put on a wig, and look girlish to drive it(LOL… sort of joking on last part).
I’d rather have the tC.
It’s cool, sporty, has more for the money, and ya lose maybe 3-4 mpg, but have 160HP.
This new Corolla might hit 140HP, maybe.
PS: Would I consider a Corolla. Maybe(since in my area, most of these farmer/backwoods types do NOT drive foreign cars….and they would NOT know that a Corolla might be considered an appliance, sectretary car..etc…We are the only foreign car owners for 3 miles… sad, really).

I’ve known a lot of people who have no problem affording BMW, yet they still drive their Corolla.
On the other hand, I also know a few people who clearly can’t afford even a Corolla (e.g.: work as a pizza driver, no offense), yet they drive a BMW 3-series.
Some of those smart investors (SO, RK, DT) say that we should not buy a car worth more than 2%-5% of our net worth.
e.g.:
Joe should be driving a $4K car if he’s worth is $200K.
Yet, in reality, Joe drives a $30K car.
What’s your number?
This is the new Corolla for the Chinese, and perhaps other Asians markets. This is quite likely a close representation of what the US Corolla sedan will look like.
