New Ford Expedition
Last Updated:
It looks like Ford isn’t ready to answer the 2007 Tahoe challenge with an all new truck. At least from these pictures.
Next year’s Expedition might just have to do with a new front end, and maybe a revised interior.
That might mean the same thing for the Navigator…
Are they falling behind, or are they just sinking less money into a shrinking segment???
Any of you see something I don’t from these pictures?
Yeh maybe it has an efficient diesel engine!!!
wasn’t it the expedition i heard was going to be cancelled? or was it the excursion??
either way i can see ford won’t dump much money into a shriving SUV market, they said they were going to focus more on fuel economy.. maybe a hybrid suv from ford is coming?? would make sense to not dump a lot of money into a model line that is going to get changed soon..

HEY VINCE!! sorry for the double post..
Well the Ford hybrid SUV is here, it’s called the Escape. I don’t see anything special except the cover-up revised front end. SUV isn’t the future, go subcompact!
GM really messed up when they dumped all the R&D money into a new full size SUV. I think Ford did the right thing here. They canceled the Excursion in Sept. Looks like the Expedition will be around for a little while longer. I doubt they’ll sell many. Driving around in a new full size SUV is like wearing a big “kick me” poster on your back.

Te Excursion is dead.. Kind of.
I hear they are working (and already testing) a long wheelbase version of the next Expedition to replace it.
Kind of what Chevy has with the Suburban, a longer Tahoe…
The updated Expedition will have the new front facia and an entirely new interior. The new interior is very similar to the F-150 Lariat.
IMO, the Expedition doesn’t need to be entirely new to compete with the Tahoe/Yukon. It was already way ahead of the game when compared to the older versions (except that front facial looked like crap).
The next Expedition will also have a 6 speed auto that was co-developed with GM. I don’t know if they will have a “displacement on demand” like system or a diesel, but the F-150 is due to get a V6 Diesel in the 2007MY, so I think it might be headed the Expedition’s way….
The Excursion IS dead. It will be replaced by a streched Expedition that some have said will be badged as the Expedition XL.
Thanks for all the info.
What about the Everest, is that the stretched Expedition?
well i think they were smart by just updating them to compete better, the new gm suvs will really just fall in line with the expedition since the expedition was desighned during the current ones life cycle. The problem with gm from reading other sites is how large suvs are being viewed right now, and despite that the segment is falling in sales, all of gm’s vehicles need to be a hit, and i think these suvs are just the way to help since that is where gm is already ahead of the competition. The trucks at least will have good gas mileage for their size, and from what ive noticed full size suvs are still selling
From my understanding, the Everest name was discarded? Not sure if that is the case, but it and the stretched Expi are one in the same…
as for GM’s SUVs, the GMT-900’s. IF GMs milage claims hold true (21mpg in mixed driving) then GM WILL have 3 hits on their hands. As it stands, the Escalade will be a hit, no matter what.
My name is shalom Rabinovitch(the son of the most fameous local Jewish Rabbi in the bronx(New York city) You as a jew(pollacko jew) should know him :Micha rabinovitch.
I’m very proud of You and’ll buy you this truck SUV if you’ll come to visit me(maybe we’ll fall in love)?!, I live on 234 “Fordham” road by the grand concourse,i’m divorcing my Italian boyfriend(he’s too stupid)!!!
With gas prices on the rebound and the fact that the new GM SUVs will be all new from the ground up and have better aerodynamics, fuel economy, and an optional hybrid drivetrain, Ford should’ve done more to stay competitive.
