2022 Kia Niro: Vs the curent one.
Last Updated:
The next-generation Kia Niro will be brand new.
Although from the pictures, it looks like the proportions will be very similar. The new one looks a bit more angular. The black plastic pillar behind the rear side window seems reminiscent of what we have just seen on the Sedona minivan.
From this angle, you can see the black plastic window trim better. You can also see an all-new rear lights design. With thin vertical units. So fat similar to the Cadillac XT-4 (at least from the small bits we can see here)
Which could be a big departure from the current design.
It seems like the next Niro could look quite different indeed…
I am hoping the interior and cargo space will improve, it's become a drawback.
I absolutely love the wheels. Wonder if this will still share a platform with one of the upcoming Ioniq models at Hyundai?
I don't think there is any chance that it will share a platform with any of the upcoming Ioniq models, those are being built on a dedicated EV only E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) chassis which is not designed to accept an internal combustion engine. Remember that the Niro serves purpose as an entry level CUV along with hybrid and PHEV, BEV models. This is definitely being built on the previous gen Niro platform with probably updates to the body panels and interior just like the Kona has received.
Nope. This is all new, built on the same platform as the new Sorento, Tucson, upcoming new Sportage and Cadenza. Outside of dedicated EVs, future Kia (and Hyundai) will have a variety of engines from diesel to PHEV. Kia still deciding what they'll name their EV sub brand.
