Sony Vision S-02: electric dork…
Last Updated:
There is no way around it, this new Sony S-02 concept is the dorkiest car I’ve seen in years…
It is based on the “rather boring” S-01 sedan concept we saw last year. And just like the Model Y is to the Model 3, the bloated rounded SUV version looks much worse than the sedan.
It is just about the same size as a Tesla Model Y. And seats 7.
The interior is fine. But just like the previous sedan, it just doesn’t bring anything new. Nothing we haven’t seen somewhere else before. It just looks like one of these Tesla wannabes from China.
Not something I would expect from a brand like Sony.
This is truly disappointing. I think Sony has a great brand name and deserves something much better than this. I can’t even understand what the point of these concepts is.
They seem to be spending a lot of money to just “explore the market”. We all know the market. People will buy electric cars, that’s the market.
Sony needs to bring something new. (They invented the Walkman for God’s sake!)
Another pseudo-Tesla isn’t going to do it.
You would think they'd have the money to hire some decent designers? These are ugly.
The S-01 concept wasn't that bad. But the S-02 is like a Japanese 90s minivan… especially with that profile. I wouldn't be surprised if the lead designer or the committee responsible for these are in their 50s lol.
Vince:
(They invented the Wlakmann for God's sake!)
What's a Wlakmann?
The dorkiest car to me in years was the first gen Toyota Mirai. This Sony, while not exactly pleasing to the eye is much better than that eye sore Toyota thought was a car.

I love the sedan! High Japanese quality, long ranges, and low prices: these will sell a lot!
Is it weird it reminds me of a "future car concept" from the early 90s or 80s?
I think the proper word here is "insipid".' So, while the likes of Samsung are eating them alive oi the consumer electronic market, they dive into a market in which they have little expertise.
Vincent, is there anything other than internet babble to indicate Sony is actually going to do this? (Manufacturing partner, etc.)
Yeah, on "perceived" value,
But "This" is why I'm keeping my '69 R/T.
Where you expecting it to look like a playstation? I like them. They pretty much look like other electric concepts already out there. If the price and range are right, I'd consider them. Now we'll see if other electronics companies will start making cars.
Says the guy (that's just an assumption on my part, you may be a zer or zey) that thinks the Caddilca Inner Space is the bees knees.
In the dictionary, when the word taste comes up there's a photo of Vince. The caption says "Not Him".
"insipid" is the correct word indeed.
As far as Sony actually doing this, I haven't heard anything else. They are so far claiming to "explore the market". Which means these would be at least 2 or 3 years away if ever produced.
It's just weird…
