Ford Fiesta EV.

Ford killed the Fiesta in 2023. (It was discontinued long before in North America.) And a new EV generation could be on its way, thanks to VW.
Apparently, the VW-based Ford EVs have been quite successful in Europe, after a delayed and rough start. Sales of the European Explorer EV and new Capri EV have been good enough for Ford to maybe consider more partnership with VW. The Explorer EV and Capri and both based on the same platform used for the VW ID.4 and ID.5, even if these 2 look nothing like the VW models.
EVs are not the first models from joint ventures between VW and Ford. The VW Amarok Pickup is basically a Ford Ranger. And back in the 1990’s they both produced similar minivans for the European markets.
VW’s Martin Sanders recently mentioned that “the partnership has been very very successful”. And that he didn’t want to “rule out that there are future opportunities here to share technology again”. Which sounds a lot like more new models based on shared platforms. A new Fiesta EV could send up being the upcoming VW ID. 2’s close cousin.
It’s also a bit sad that a company like Ford seems so far behind that they have to rely on someone else’s platform to expand their EV offerings in Europe. Ford has been working hard for a couple of years on a brand new cheaper to cheaper-to-produce EV platform. But that will be for a small pickup and SUV for the American market. Starting late next year at the earliest. These will still be quite a bit larger than the Fiesta or even a Focus. However, if the platform is cheap enough to produce and modular enough, I guess it could eventually replace the VW platform.
For now, it seems the easiest way for Ford to offer more EVs in Europe is through VW. Using the same small VW platform used for the upcoming ID.2 for a new Fiesta EV does make sense.
Not sure why Ford hasn’t considered bringing something like a smaller ID4 (Ford branded and designed) to the US market since Tesla is faltering.
