Nissan Skyline.
Last Updated:

Yes, even with all that current financial mess, Nissan is apparently working on an all-new Skyline. However, it won’t be a “regular” sedan anymore.
The Skyline is a long-running name for Nissan, with the first generation dating from 1957. Back then, it was produced by the “Prince Motor Company”. Which was merged into Nissan 10 years later. The 11th generation came to the US as the Infiniti G35 in 2002. While the 13th generation was just canceled in the US last year, as the Infiniti Q50.
Nissan has now confirmed that they have been working on a new generation. Recently, it has also announced that they had stopped work on 2 future EV sedans. One for Nissan and the other for Infiniti. That and the car-buying public’s love of SUVs probably mean the next Skyline won’t be a classic sedan. But it will probably adopt a more coupe-like SUV shape.
It is interesting to note that the Infiniti EX37 SUV was sold in Japan as the “Skyline Crossover” for a while, a few years ago. So it might not be as blasphemous as many car nerds would think.
Plus, Nissan is in big trouble right now and they need new models that actually sell and make money.
The illustration above shows what a sleek next-generation Nissan Skyline with a more SUV shape could look like. A new in-between creature that is neither a sedan nor an SUV. Or both.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens to Nissan. It the company ends up in a merger or just acquired by someone. As ot today, they’ve announced 20,000 layoffs and drastic cuts. And yet, they have quite a few new models planed.
Like a brand new Leaf, Sentra sedan, next-generation Rogue, and a revised Frontier pickup. And that’s just for North America.
