Chery A3

Last Updated:

Another pretty nice looking car from China. They also will offer a hatch version.

Not sure what their plans are now. We were supposed to get Chery cars through Malcolm Bricklin’s company by now…
It will be interesting to see who will be the first Chinese company to sell cars in the US.
After teasing us for a couple of years, MG’s new Chinese owners have now announced their plans to enter the US market (They even went to far as to clim the cars were going to be built over here in a new factory) are dead.
So no MG for us…

  1. Aside from the safety concerns…it looks like it has the potential to sell well over here. We need these cars to Hyundai can finally shake off their last ounces of negativity associated with their brand and join the Honda and Toyota family of excellence.

  2. the problem i have with those cars and other stuff coming from china is the working conditions… workers security??? none. work hours??? barbaric.

people that have bad accidents are forced to move back to their hometown in the woods and don;t get a dime… speaking of paralympics which are held right now… guiding dogs are normally NOT allowed in everyday life, like trams, busses or restaurants. only for the duration of the paralympics the chinese government made “exemptions”!

as long as china is a totalitarian state this will not change… tibet is another topic… just one of many oppressed minorities in china…

i hope apple, the maker of my beloved iphone and macbook pro, assembles in china too. but tey used to do that in taiwan, which does NOT have those problems! they respect the handicapped and their workers! and mainland china is a “peoples” republic, LOL…

  3. The overall design is nice, but look at the fit on those interior plastics. Holy cow what a mess. It’s bad enough that the passenger airbag lid is defined, but look at the warped seams on the lid and the seams on the center stack, plus where the glovebox meets the dash. Pretty bad umless this thing comes in at $7k or so.

  4. If you look inside a geely car factory, its like stepping through a time warp back to the sixties.
    Scary.

  5. Theres really nothing to fault here. This Chinese car is as good as anything from Japan, Korea, America or Europe in its price range. Good job on the design Chery. The engineering I can’t say anything about though. -RPM

  6. Yeah, Vince, it looks really good….

Did you happen to miss the panel gap on the hood and the rest of the car? How about the fit and finish of the interior trim pieces? I certainly did not miss it.

    This vehicle looks terrible.

  7. Looks like a Nissan Neon.

And that’s really too bad about MG. I was waiting to see what statement they would make.

  8. IT’S VERY INTERESTING TO HEAR THE COMMENTS OF ALL THESE PEOPLE MOST OF WHOM HAVE NEVER STEPPED FOOT INSIDE CHINA. THE CHERY A3 IS A SUPERB, WELL CONCEIVED AUTOMOBILE, BUILT IN A STATE OF THE ART FACTORY AND IF HOMOLOGATED TO U.S. STANDARDS COULD COMPETE IN IT CLASS ADMIRABLY. I’VE BEEN TO THE FACTORY AND SEEN THESE CARS FIRST HAND, NOT JUST IN PICTURES. THE CHINESE ARE COMING…GET YOUR WALLETS OUT BECAUSE THEY WILL BE LESS EXPENSIVE AND JUST AS WELL BUILT AS OUR CARS.
