2010 Honda Crosstour test drive

Last Updated:

This is from Edmunds where they have already driven the new Honda.
I must say, I do like it better when it’s moving than in the previous pictures.
But I’ve never been a fan of the current Accord interior, which is used in the Crosstour.
Plus, this car begs for a glass roof.
I think the Venza does have a much better interior, and the glass roof. And most people like the Toyota’s design much better.

  1. Honda really needs to bring R&D back to Japan…How can you screw up brakes?

A Honda engine with no low-end torque…That's rare.

  2. So this is a longer hatchback with a larger hump on it's back. Should have called it the HONDA HUNCHBACK! Begs for a glass roof? This thing begs for a car crucher!

  3. I agree that the Crosstour does look better on the move than in the photos released by Honda. Moving or not, however, that grill is massive!

The Edmunds reviewer mentioned cargo capacity a couple of times during the video. With the rear seats down the Crosstour's cargo volume is 51.3 cubic feet. This is small for such a large vehicle. Even Honda's own Fit (ie, with its squared off "mini wagon" style body) holds more stuff with the seats folded (ie, 57.3 cubic feet).

  4. Most of the reviews I have read or seen for the Crosstour have been positive so far. They all said that it drives well, which I would believe it does.

Vince, I personally think the Crosstour is much better looking than the silly Venza.

Talk to Nissan about screwing up brakes.

Read a backdated copy of Car and Driver from last year where they tested multiple vehicles, including the 350Z Nismo and FX45. Both after three test segments had faded so bad that the vehicle almost refused to stop. Braking distances went from ~130 feet on the FX to over 400 (!!!) after three runs.

  5. Seriously…Did you see those brakes smoldering? Brakes were invented about 400 years ago and Honda still can't get them right…Maybe add some bottom torque to those hamster wheels you call engines.

  6. It looks jacked-up to me. And those rims look exactly like the ones on the Mazda5.

Why not just called it a hatchback. Don't like the smoked-out tailgate there. I guess it needed for rear vision.

  7. WOW! Someone at Honda discovered what to do with that sound-deadening material they had laying around.

  8. I would never buy a honda again because of its sorry ass brakes, my rotors on my honda warped every 10k got replaced at 35k and made some hellacious noise when warmed up !

  9. Most people like the Toyota's design much better — do you have a survey to support this or is it just pure speculation? Thanks…

That is because some jackass overtorqued your lug nuts or there was a caliper sticking because they didn't lube the slider pins.

Often morons blame it on the car and don't understand the root cause.

  11. Heres how you 'screw up brakes'.. you redesign the car and increase its weight. Then pull the same stock brakes from the previous gen. Too much weight in motion; not enough stopping power = screwed up. This is what Edmunds is referring to and its also true of the Fit. The cost of cost savings. The Civics I've driven didnt have this issue.

All brakes smoke when you heat them up enough.

I take it that you have never tracked a vehicle in your entire life. Even the Hawk HP+ pads on my track vehicle will smoke after three hot laps and that is on a 2000 pound Miata.

  13. They stick with the same brakes and increase weight year-after-year…How difficult/expensive is it to increase brake power? Honda is big on safety yet their brakes (which I think is at least somewhat important) suck! You have to go with a proper German car to get proper brakes…It's an Autobahn thing.

  14. "Often morons blame it on the car and don't understand the root cause"

And that's why 8 out of 10 morons avoid GM, Ford, & Chrysler.

  15. "Honda is big on safety" YOUR'RE KIDDING, RIGHT? Honda isn't "big" on anything. And definitely not on SAFETY!

Nearly EVERY SINGLE ONE of Hondas models are five star rated front, side and rear. Every single model in the Acura lineup has a five star crash test rating, the only manufacturer to do so.

Honda is also big on reliability, resale value, performance, value, the list goes on. They win nearly every single comparison test that they are in with major automotive publications and Consumer Reports named them the #1 manufacturer overall for 2009.

It really sounds as if you have NO idea what you are talking about, and just like to bash Honda.

  17. Looks like from their website that they didnt use sound deadening material, but reverse-phase sound waves to cancel out noise coming into the cabin from the engine and the hatch.

  18. @"Honda is also big on reliability, resale value, performance, value, the list goes on. "

Honda is all those things, but their competition is also gaining a lot of ground. Its no longer enough to just say We're Honda. While their designs are usually controversial, they have to have the mechanicals to back it up… and I do think they've been taking too many shortcuts in the recent years… it started when they began putting strut-suspensions in their smaller cars to cut costs. I dont care what they say about the space. They had them in their tiniest civics from the 80's without space issues. And more recently by putting drum brakes in the rear of Civics etc… This is very un-Honda-like. Both of (brakes and multilink suspensions) used to be Honda hallmarks. Add the weird design and traditional Honda lovers are getting upset to see whats happening to a company they care about.

Honda has ALWAYS used drums in their NON-PERFORMANCE oriented Civics.

The Sis and highest trim line have been the only Civics to use disc brakes.

The current Civic Si is the best handling Civic ever sold in the US and it has the "disliked" design.

  20. Honda's aren't getting worse. Honda buyers are getting wiser. (and feeling duped). That leads to ACTUAL comparison shopping, and THAT'S why Honda's loosing customers.

  21. You mean Honda is beaming waves into the car to make you think it is quieter? Where's my tin foil hat!

Cash for Clunkers proves you wrong.

    Recent sales prove you wrong.

    Comparison tests prove you wrong.

    Go sit down, kid.

    Absolutely incorrect.

The noise reduction technology DOES NOT replace sound deadening material and flex mats.

Please go spread your misinformation elsewhere.

  24. November 9, 2009 6:27 AM The high cost of Honda's "scheduled maintainance" proves me right. I'll sit down now (but never in a Honda).

Not all dealers charge the same, be an educated consumer and not a schmuck and find another dealer that charges less. There are over 10 Honda dealers within a 30 mile radius from my home.

You have to pay to play, and with Honda you get a bulletproof vehicle. Are you not going to buy a Porsche because an OIL CHANGE is going to run you $250?

Are you going to buy a POS Dodge because they have "cheap" maintenance but in return you get a terrible vehicle that isn't worth squat when you sell it?

Educate yourself, there is such a thing as long term planning.

  26. November 9, 2009 1:07 PM You're so full of crap. I have RECORDS on Honda's, Dodges, and a few other brands our companies have bought over the years. The Honda cost more to buy. (Which means you spend more on finance interest too!) They cost more to do the "recommended maintainance". (And you can't just let a Honda go untill something breaks, they're not as robust as say, Dodges or Fords; One thing leads to six others in a hurry on a Honda. And resale is totally irrelevent if you're really good with money (a 10-year-old 300k mile Dodge is worth about as much as a 10-year-old 300k mile Honda. So quit deceiving yourself and keep some records. If you can afford it (after blowing all that money on all those POS Hondas); buy yourself a new Avenger and a new Accord. Keep records for 10 years. Maintain them in identical fashon and you'll never buy a Honda again. (unless you're just stupidly stubborn and do it for spite). Good luck, fiscal genious!
