While VW’s is making headlines with the new ID.7 EV sedan, they are not abandoning the good old large ICE sedan. At least in China.
The new Magotan will be their new sedan for the Chinese market, looking a lot like a Passat replacement. The new Passat is now only available as a wagon, and this is basically its sedan counterpart. Although, unlike the wagon, this new sedan will probably not be sold in Europe at all.
Previously, the Chinese and North American markets shared the same Passat model, while a smaller and fancier one was old in Europe. This new Magotan doesn’t really look more modern than the Passat we had over here a few years ago. The interior seems of course very similar to the new Passat and even the new 2024 Tiguan, which is expected since they are closely related.
The Megotan is available with a 1.5 Liter or larger 2.0 Liter Turbo engine and looks like it is a Chinese market car, its odd name, and clumsy name make it sound like it’s almost ready to fight Godzilla.
