2025 VW ID.Buzz pricing.

After literally decades of teasing us with a new retro van, VW is finally about the sell the new ID. Buzz in the US. I personally saw it back in late 2022, and it looks fantastic in person.
It seems VW has chosen to offer 2 new color interiors in the US on top of the existing Dune, which is a very light grey. US customers will be able to order a lighter brown/orange Copper interior or an even darker Moonkight brown.
These all look great, however, I’m not sure every color will be available with all exterior colors.
The US ID. Buzz will be available in 3 trims:
- Pro S. (no “regular Pro?). Only available in white, silver, or black, and no Dune interior choice. 9 speaker stereo, 3 zone climate, etc.
- Pro Plus. All colors are available with 8 two-tone options for $995. 14 speaker Harman Kardon sohnd system. Power sliding rear doors. It seems to come with everything although the cool “smart panoramic roof” is still $1500 extra.
- 1st Edition. Only comes with the Dune interior and AWD. Unique 20-inch wheels and “special badging”.
These aren’t bad news until you find out the maximum EV range is just 234 miles for the FWD model. (231 with AWD). Both numbers are pretty unacceptable for a 2025 expensive EV. This is what Kia offers as a basic range on the EV9. However, you can get a larger battery and get up to over 300 miles. 230 could be OK for a base model but not for the whole lineup with zero way to upgrade. It seems VW is behind, once again.
As for the price, we’re not talking about the best news either. The Pro S will start at $61,500. Pros S Plus is $65,000 and Launch edition is $71,500. All prices include a $1500 Destination charge.
While the VW ID. Buzz is the coolest production car I’ve seen in many years, pricing is not great. And it doesn’t qualify for federal incentives, unlike the Kia EV9. This will all come down to leasing. Which in my opinion is the way to go for an EV anyway. And still, the cheapest model with the panoramic roof will start at around $66,500.
For a while, these will get more attention than a Cybertruck. Which might be worth it to some. But in about a year, they might just end up being super cool-looking overpriced vans with a mediocre range. I am not sure when VWs are supposed to be getting the NACS plugs or adapters, but it will be desperately needed for any kind of road trip with a 230 miles range.
There is also zero mention of a real “camp mode”. Something really needed in a vehicle that will be advertised for actual camping and road trips.
Why???
