Jaguar Type 00 Concept.

Last Updated:

This new Jaguar Type 00 concept and the Cybertruck could be the most controversial car designs in many years.

They are both pushing the envelope and they could be both seen as insults. And they are by many. Instead of fixing things, it looks like Jaguar just decided to throw everything away and start over. However, I do see some older Jaguar designs in the proportions of the concept. The super long hood and short rounded rear shape are both very reminiscent of the classic E-Type coupe. Which is good.

The concept is a very radical change for the Jaguar brand but not the craziest concept ever. As you can see from the first image on top, it also seems the production model will be quite different from the concept. It will thankfully keep similar proportions with the long hood but will be a 4-door. And not a 2 door 2 two-seat coupe like the concept.

From what we can guess under the camouflage, the side windows are also thankfully taller. However, the rear end could be pretty different and seems to include a truck shape. That could also be a bit of extended camouflage.

The interior also looks like a typical concept interior design. And it’s really hard to tell what will me it into the transition to a production car. And again, the real thing will have 4 doors and will have to accommodate 4 humans. That wall between the e2 front passengers will probably have to go. (Than God…)

I think the “new Jaguar” brand’s intention a few days ago was to shock the car world with a few outlandish gimmicky videos. While the concept has actually good things going for it. From what we saw of the prototypes testing around, it seems the production car will toned down a lot which is a good thing.

Let’s not panic yet, the real car could end up being very interesting…

  1. I dig it. It is just a concept, so a production model will not be as radical, but overall I like the look. Big, imposing, and if you squint you do see some Jaguar DNA from a few of their classics. Yet it is a thoroughly modern look to it. Art Deco-retro design. Like something you might see from the old Batman cartoon from the early 90s. I also see a tiny bit of the last SAAB concept that was ever shown the Aero-X.

  2. Oh, I’m panicking. Over the last decades Jaguar has transitioned from beautiful cars that no-one buys to dull cars that no-one buys. The final step is hideous cars that no-one buys.

  3. If people are seeking practicality (ie. SUVs), why on earth do these concept sedans and real sedans on sale keep showing up with ever lowered rooflines. Sedans didn’t used to be so absolutely useless, or low to the ground.

  4. Sorry – Google decided to insert that old comment upon send (nonsequiter). My comment was – *cartoonish is right!

  5. Let’s be real here: This car isn’t revolutionary at all, there is hardly anything new to it. Concept cars with a shape like this: been there, done that (e.g. Maybach Exelero, Audi Skysphere). The only reason it polarizes is that it doesn’t look like a Jaguar (!) is expected to look like. And that’s not rocket science. Any brand can throw their heritage overboard, come up with something generic and call it the future. Deleting is easy, creating is hard. And creating something very new, with paying hommage to the heritage, that’s the real art. I’m not impressed by this concept. Other than being loud and hyped, there is nothing to it.
